As far as I am concerned, it is not yet official that KG is done for the entire postseason. Doc didn't say he was, nor has anyone else in the Celtics organization. In fact Doc said and I am quoting: "It's not official that he's out for the entire playoffs, but it's official as far as I'm concerned," Rivers said yesterday. "I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it."
"The coach described the injury as a strain to the popliteus tendon, which sits at the back of the knee, on the outside, and bisects the big joint that is the knee's fulcrum."
If it's the popliteus tendon, then rest is needed, not surgery.
But, one of the articles I read this morning in the Globe quoted the Sixers old orthopedic team doc and some other sports doctors as saying that they don't believe the diagnosis. And I quote:
"But DiNubile said Garnett's symptoms and the projected length of his recovery do not seem consistent with the diagnosis. Instead, another orthopedic specialist speculated that the star player may be suffering from something more severe: damaged cartilage, perhaps, or a floating chip that might be lodged in a recess of the tendon."
"I'd say it's not likely" that it's a damaged popliteus tendon, said Dr. Riley Williams, the New Jersey Nets' team physician and an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. "It's such an unusual diagnosis. It seldom occurs in isolation."
"DiNubile theorized that high-tech medical scans may be failing to identify the true source of the damage."
The way I see it is if the Celts team docs are correct, KG rests until the ECF and comes back to help us get by the Lebrons and the Fakers!
If the Celts team docs are wrong, then I think Dave_from_NB said it best: "It's not official until after a press release has been issued on how the surgery went."

Re: KG: Is it really official?
KG was done about 5-6 weeks ago. When KG came back after 4 weeks off, the knee didn't react well. That told me it was more seroius than what they made it out to be. The rest wasn't helping the knee. That's when I had a strong feeling that he was done.
It is what it is. Injuries happen. Let's be graeful that we escpaped Pierce's, Perkins' and Rondo's injuries in last years finals and won it all.

" He has some stuff floating around in his knee. That will need to be removed"
I believe that was from Doc. KG will need surgery in the off season for this.

If they're so convinced Garnett is probably done for the playoffs, then it's probably inconceivable he be healthy enough to make much of an impact.
Even the fact that he's not having surgery may not mean much -- while it was a very different and surely much more severe kind of injury, recall the analogy that Tom Brady couldn't have surgery until the swelling in his knee went down.

Thing is, if KG is done, and he needs surgery for the bone spurs, then why not go ahead with the surgery now and rule him out officially? After all, he's not going to be playing right ............??
My personal opinion is they're resting him and doing all kinds of treatment for a potential return later on in the playoffs which is why they're not making anything official because they know that he may be able to play later on. Which is why, they're also not going ahead with the surgery now because he very well might play later.

Well I don't think we can just assume we'll beat the Bulls...we *could* be down 0-2 instead of tied going into Chicago...and they play well at home...
I think we'll get a split in Chicago and then finish them off in 6...

It's still 17 to 11!!!!
