How come the nickname, the Ticket Stub, never caught on?

Post#1 » by campybatman » Fri Apr 17, 2009 7:17 pm

Random, I know, but I just heard an audio clip of Davis on WEEI and he'd referred to himself as the Ticket Stub. I was like... Oh, I forgot about that... I ask since I'm not a fan of calling him "Big Baby." I don't like it... Sounds dumb to me (yes, I already know the story behind it). It's like when I hear people call Ray, Ray-Ray. No, he's Jesus... Watch the movie! Everyone knows that... Heck, Grande calls him Sugar Ray which sounds too trite. Anyways, I kind of like the Ticket Stub for Davis as his official nickname. Anyone else agree?

PS I suppose if this is his last season with Boston. Then it might not even matter. It only makes sense if Garnett's his teammate.

This is the time where we will find out what Big Baby is made of. This whole playoffs hopefully the the Baby/Powe debate can be settled. I was always on the Powe side of the fence, but the way Baby (err, Ticket stub) played in the second half of the season made me re-evaluate Glen as a player. I would love for him to show us all something in these playoffs and get himself into the national spotlight. I bet he's f.cking pumped for the playoffs.

EDIT: And to answer your question, once someone already has a nickname that most peopel refer to interchangeable and almost more than his actual name, it's hard to come up with anything else and have it stick.

The nickname Ticket Stub brings attention to the fact that Davis is short, fat, has short arms, and can't jump...not a nickname I'd be chomping at the bit to adopt...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

It's true! Glen Davis should be trying to distance himself from the word "stub"!!!! It'd be like Duncan trying to fit the word "dull" into a nickname!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

I think there was also an attempt to give him the nickname 'Big Beasty' when he put up 24 on Memphis.

I wonder what Tyrus Thomas calls him. I know what Davis calls Thomas... Appetizer. There's not enough meat on that bone.

It seldom works when athletes--or non-athletes, for that matter--try to give themselves nicknames. Didn't KG try to make 'Cobra' stick some time back?

It is pretty simple. It is a stupid nickname; that is why it didn't stick.

Davis is probably even more fed up of hearing the Big Baby nickname than I am, which is really saying something.

But a player trying to give himself a nickname is pretty lame.

The Big Fundamental isn't exactly an exciting nickname either.
