One word: NO.
Atleast not until he can create his own shot consistently, and becomes a more consistent shooter. He has the athleticism to be a good one. There is no need for him to be a 2, hes a good fit at the 3.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

maybe...... if he plays a Reggie Miller or Rip Hamilton, "off the ball" type of shooting guard, then maybe.

Don't think so, at least not on a high level even as an off the ball type. Not a strong enough handle for full time SG duty. Also question some of the defensive match ups he'd face. In my opinion, those areas of weakness create exploitable deficiencies for the other team.

He's very good at SF. His D works most of the time against good/great SFs in the league. At SG I think he doesn't have the speed neither the dribbling ability. He relies a lot on athleticism, so he's got to play off the ball at SF.

Marvin would look great at the 3 in Minnesota next to a front-line of Love and Jefferson.

There are days I think Hawks' fans forget that Marvin, while no stud, is the kind of solid young player with upside and good character that smart teams crave. I hope Sund does the right thing and keeps him in Atlanta long-term.

Why would anyone trade a lotto pick for a s/t?

Remember, it is impossible to do a S&T for a draft pick in this draft. The reason is simple, you can't sign and trade anyone until July. The draft is in June. Don't expect anyone to draft a player on a promise of a sign and trade working out.

Not that I disagree with you necessarilly, but he could also be qualified as the type of player who is young and athletic but lacking in enough aspects of his game that a team needing star power is willing to overpay for in hopes that he develops into something more than a well-mannered role player.

I hope Sund does the right thing and I hope circumstance dictates that the right thing is keeping Marv here, but I'm not gonna quit following the team of someone does something unexpected (especially in this market) and offers him big bucks.

I could see MN working a s/t. We could "draft for atlanta" and then hold the rights/player until after the july date. We have cap, and tons of expiring. We also have rights to a top-notch euro center and utah's future pick.

I know teams have drafted players for other teams even though the trade wasnt completed until weeks after the draft(Hibbert)but I don't remember that happening with a restricted free agent. Marvin's agent and the Hawks could verbally agree to a deal before the free agency process with Minny but it seems like something that Glen Taylor would be hesitant to do after the Joe Smith situation.
