Detroit Tigers @ Seattle Mariners
Felix vs. Verlander. Interesting. How about an early-in-the-season-statement-game by Felix?

Re: Detroit Tigers @ Seattle Mariners
Felix was hit around a bit last outing, but we won and it was generally glossed over. I'm hoping for a bounce back effort. I have a little bit of money riding of him winning the AL Cy Young.
Verlander is 0-1 with a 9.35 ERA after two starts: gave up 8 ER in 3 IP at Toronto his first time out, but Toronto can do that to you some times. He bounced back with a solid 5 against Texas, giving up 1 earned and only two hits. He's walked 6 in 8 IP this year; 4 last start.
For argument's sake, Verlander is 6-1 with a sub 3 ERA lifetime against Seattle. But who isn't?

That said, there's been enough turnover in the lineup that its a completely different scenario. This isn't a lineup Verlander has had a chance to manhandle before.

Totally. The offense has some punch in it for the first time in awhile.

well, i don't have a doubt felix will have a good game. as far as i remember felix has always had very good starts of the season and then the team drags him down.

Hell of a 5th inning!
Verlander takes a perfect game into the inning, but the M's have just tied it at 3. 2 on, only one out still. Ichiro's at the plate.

Re: Detroit Tigers @ Seattle Mariners
M's take the first one, 6-3.
5 runs in the 5th did it. Felix pitched well outside of the 2nd inning, when he gave up 3 and loaded the bases again before escaping without doing further damage.
Griffey scored from 1st on a Beltre double in the 8th. Not quite Game 5 against the Yankees, but it still brought back some nice nostalgia
8-3 through 11 games ties a franchise record, set in 2001 and again in 2002.

Felix got roughed up early, but then settled down for the win. Great outing by the bullpen. Morrow had his stuff going, throwing triple digits a few times. The M's are actually fun to watch this year.

That bunt by Gutierrez was as good a drag bunt as you'll ever see. Wow. What a fun game to watch...again, I would've turn that sucker off in the 4th inning last year, but this year I kept watching and was rewarded for doing so.
Morrow was filthy. The radar gun had him at 99-100 mph on just about every fastball. Expecting that number was a bit friendly, he was still probably around 98 mph and throwing strikes. He looked unhittable.

So, if the M's were on a pace for exactly their projected record, they'd be about 5-6 now. Instead they're 8-3, i.e. 3 wins ahead. What that means is, even if the expectations for the future don't change one bit based on what's happened so far, if you projected them for 75 wins you can adjust that up to 78 right now. (Scheduling aside -- and overall I'd say they've played a schedule of four pretty average teams, so it's probably neutral.) Anyway, that's something.
Wonder how long Yuni stays in the lineup because of the hollowest .333 I've ever seen.

Edwin Jackson (0-0, 3.38 ERA) vs. Erik Bedard (1-0, 2.02 ERA)
Jackson was great in his first start @ Toronto, then Texas got to him a bit (6 IP, 4 ER). Bedard pitched 8.1 innings of beautiful, 3 hit ball last time out in Oakland.
Bedard went 4-2 with a 2.25 ERA in Safeco last year. I'll take more of that, please.

I've been happy that he's produced results, but it's still the same 'swing blindly at the first pitch' bull**** which will comeback to hurt him. The M's bloggers are also very focused on his defensive positioning too.

Re: Detroit Tigers @ Seattle Mariners
DAMN!
I turned the game off after the 4th inning to go watch a couple episodes of The Office. Turn it back on in the 6th and we had gotten the lead back.
I was so shocked.
Anyways; Great job by Felix and the bullpen. Morrow was just crazy filthy with his stuff last night. There was nobody who was going to hit him.
And damn, Griffey was movin around those bases. I was shocked he was able to score.

Wow, what a play by Beltre in the 2nd inning! If you missed, it'll be a WebGem later tonight. Guaranteed.

Did anyone see that SF to CF, and that tag by Lopez who was thrown out at the plate? GOOD GOD! Is Lopez really that slow? I never fully realized it till then.
