I'm seriously starting to believe it is a contract thing. Clagett doesn't look to be one of the elite bullpen guys, just a good one. So paying him a few years from now if he deserves it will be a lot easier. Holding Melancon for another month or so would allow them to keep him an extra year before arbitration I believe. -Jitpal

Expect Melancon up after May 15th if they're pulling the hold back arbitration stunt.

The other factor is Melancon is not on the 40 man. I bet he only comes up once Nady gets put on the 60 day DL. -Jitpal

As someone from Bergenfield who's cousins and brothers grew up with Ron Villone...the answer is a definitive yes and they did the same thing to Villone one year by cutting his innings or something just to keep from paying him a bonus.
