Rubio/Harden/Evans/Henderson/Lawson/Jennings/DeRozan/Holiday/Maynor/Curry/Teague is 11 guys; I'd like two of them at 5 and 18. The other guys that are probably a lock to go before 18 are Griffin, Thabeet, Hill, Clark, and Blair. That's 16. Gotta cross our fingers two more guys go before 18. Guys like Wall and Motiejunas are huge huge because of this.
Aldrich, Aminu, Monroe going back to school sucks, they'd all have gone before 18. Rubio not entered would suck, too.

Don't forget BJ Mullens at 18. If we get Harden, I hope we get BJ.

Re: Countdown to heartbreak (*Draft thread pt.II)
I didn't forget about him, I'd rather have two guards. I don't the Mullens is a good investment; Wolves have a chance to possibly yank a second starter with 18, so that by definition can't be a post player, since Al and Kevin are the starting front court for the next decade. Mullens looked terrible at OSU, there is a reason Thad played him so little. He could go before 18, but I doubt it. I bet he falls on draft night like Jordan did last year - only Jordan is a much better player.

Re: Countdown to heartbreak (*Draft thread pt.II)
Part of the believed reason Thad didn't play him much was to keep him around for his Soph year. If that holds water, who knows.
And I think skill-wise, isn't BJ ranked higher than Jordan? Yeah Jordan is an athletic freak though.

I'm still pissed off that we traded chalmers...we could have used him more than the 18th pic in this draft...maybe we can trade up and get Blake

What does the 18th pick have to do with Chalmers?

Re: Countdown to heartbreak (*Draft thread pt.II)
The latest DX mock has us taking Harden, Maynor and Ellington in the first round
That would be close to my dream draft for the picks we have. Harden has the chance to be a star. Maynor to me looks like he will be a good starting point guard for years and ellington looks like a readymade scorer off the bench.

Re: Countdown to heartbreak (*Draft thread pt.II)
So we draft 2 SG's and a PG? I understand the first two picks, but Ellington makes no sense in the scenario and would never get playing time with Foye, Brewer, and Miller(this year).

I wouldn't say he makes no sense. He's a perimeter player and we definitely need perimeter help. I don't like him because he's undersized. I still consider Brewer and Miller small forwards.

Re: Countdown to heartbreak (*Draft thread pt.II)
I don't have the stats in front of me, and I know in Brewer's case they're a small sample size, but both Brewer and Miller play better as SGs. So yes, it makes no sense to draft a 5th SG. If we're going to just throw away a pick, at least try to find a center or an insanely athletic SF to waste it on.
Now if we were using our picks on say Thabeet and Maynor, or some other PG/Center combination, sure Ellington can be our 4th guard. But in that scenario it's a throw away pick.

Re: Countdown to heartbreak (*Draft thread pt.II)
Miller produced basically the same at both the 2 and 3, but played significantly more minutes at the 3. Brewer also played significantly more minutes at the 3.

Re: Countdown to heartbreak (*Draft thread pt.II)
Great...
But, as I said, both were more productive as guards. Yeah I understand they can play the 3, where we also have Gomes.
Corey Brewer - http://www.82games.com/0809/08MIN8.HTM#bypos
If you take the time to check it, he was much more productive as a shooting guard than a small forward. Offensively, and defensively.
Mike Miller - http://www.82games.com/0809/08MIN7.HTM#bypos
Little closer, but even still, Miller is productive as a SG. Offensively, and defensively.
So yes, let's draft 2 SGs in this draft, both likely under-sized, when we already have one under-sized starter at SG, and two who have great size who've proven to play better at that position than any other position.
Yet again, it makes no sense.

Re: Countdown to heartbreak (*Draft thread pt.II)
Corey Brewer player so little at the 2, it's not worth considering the numbers. It's equivalent to looking at Calvin Booth's roland rating. Miller also spends the majority of his time at the 3. That's the point, they're mainly small forwards.
I agree that it doesn't make sense to take 2 undersized SG's when we're already so undersized, but I wouldn't have a problem in general with taking 2 shooting guards if they're the best players available. I definitely would be focused more on players who are bigger and more athletic for their positions.

Re: Countdown to heartbreak (*Draft thread pt.II)
You have to consider the fact that since mid-February the bulk of our line-ups have been a big man trio of Love, Smith, and Gomes, which opens up minutes at the three, where Miller's been playing. When everyone's healthy, the bulk of our rotation looks like this...
C - Jefferson
PF - Love/Smith
SF - Gomes(Brewer/Miller)
SG - Foye/(Brewer/Miller)
PG - Telfair
Now we're so undersized in the backcourt to begin with, I don't understand, or agree with, drafting 2 undersized SGs.
Also if you look at the 5-man rotations, the best ones that Brewer's been involved in have both him and Miller in the line-up. They both can't play SF at the same time.
So Harden, in my opinion for the Wolves, drops to the 3rd guard if he measures out below 6'5", behind Evans and DeRozan. Bt if we did draft Harden, I think it's completely silly to draft yet another under-sized SG. The pick of Maynor I like if he truly ends up 6'3". DeRozan and Maynor adds good size to the backcourt.
If we continue to focus solely on the BPA, we end up with 15 PFs and 14 SGs... Oh wait... Eventually you have to fill the rest of the roster, and the 28th pick in the draft is the perfect time to take a chance on a different position for someone who'd actually have a chance of playing, since it's a guaranteed deal.

I agree on the undersized thing, I've already said that. But with Brewer and Miller's ability to play small forward, I don't see how we have any more room at the 3 than the 2.
