The "All Things Positive" Thread

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:07 pm

No negative posts allowed. No back handed compliments allowed. Just say one positive thing about each guy that finished the season on our roster.

If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all!!

LB - It was great to have a real coach who could teach rather than cross his fingers and hope.

Felts - Loved the running tear drop down the lane you added this season. It quickly became your signature shot and more often than not was money.

Raja - Your leadership and commitment to both ends of the floor set the tone for the entire team.

Crash - Seeing how you embraced LB's teachings and showed that you are still scratching the surface has me more excited about next season than anything else.

Boris - Your creativity and willingness to get everyone else involved renewed the concept of "team" after it was blown out of the water after last seasons disaster.

EO50 - The much improved aggression you showed when dunking the ball and attacking the rim was awesome to see.

DJ - It was great to have someone on the roster that didn't make me cringe when he took a 3 point shot or went to the free throw line.

Bling - It was refreshing to read about you turning up to training 8 hours earlier than everyone else during your first 10 day because you were so happy to be in the NBA.

Radman - Seeing you at least attempt to play D and actually be willing to shoot the ball made you a massive upgrade over what we had.

Juwan - Your involvement of the 2nd unit from the bench even when they weren't a part of the game was a key factor in creating the team atmosphere we have.

Lexy - It was great to see you produce once given PT down in the D.

Juwan Howard played as a pretty good backup. It seems like he turned back the clock. I always liked him.

Felton is showing alot of that potential we all knew he had. He looked very good at the end of the season.

Radman-You have played the best basketball I have seen.

DJ-You are a fun little player who can seriously average 17 points potentially and have cool drives.

Boris-Your a damm fine player. I didn't realize how good you were.

Gerald Wallace-you are the man.

Larry Brown-Good to have you on board. Legendary coach.

Bell-Great leadership. You seem to be better then Jrich by yourself.

I have nothing else nice to say about anybody else so I won't say anything.

LB- I got to experience the frustrating limitations of Mac's preview application in making two "awesome" Curb Your Enthusiasm graphics. Also, you righted our ship and showed what a difference it makes to have someone that knows how to run a basketball team involved in the organization.

Felton- Your love for the game is hard to dislike, no matter how much grief I give you or that you create for me.

Okafor- 5th in the league in dunks while making 64% of your inside shots. Nice improvement on #8 last year on 62% inside. 12 more slams!! YEA!!!

Wallace- When we were contending for the playoffs, you really looked like "the man". I'm excited to see how your game matures as you continue to adjust to your teammates.

Boris- I loved Jrich, but you're more of a "Walt Cronkite" type baller.

Raja- I didn't respect your game in Phoenix. Obviously, neither did Kerr. We're possibly in the playoffs right now if you don't get injured. BIG ups ya'self.

Radmanovic- I'm excited to see the affect LB has on your game. He seems to believe in you, so I'll look at your moody performances at the season's close as a frustration with losing and missing the playoffs than being a spoiled brat. You are soooo much better than what was available on the bench before you.

Juwan- Your vet leadership on a steal of a deal has me looking forward to you being back on the bench next season.

DJ- It was a breath of fresh air to have a more than competent backup pg.

Lexi- I want to believe!

Jefferson- keep it up and you could become the next Hammer

Mohammed-thanks for not demanding a trade until after the season. Respectable veteran move, now let's work on that silly contract.

Plus Felton I realized you are way better then I thought because the Bobcats will often give it to him with 3-5 seconds left on the clock and he has to take a bad/hard shot so your % is deceptive which means your a damm fine player who has allstar potential.

Hey, time for a positive post from me, because I realized I'm always negative.

I think we actually have a pretty darn good team, and I would think we are a playoff squad if we had Diaw the whole year.

Okafor, for all his faults, is a very good player, a top 10 center, and an anchor for the team in the future. Diaw is also a very good player and I am so happy to see him reaching his potential with our squad. I panned his trade because I was expecting what he did for most of his career, and now we're getting damn near his peak.

DJ Augustin is a darn good draft pick. He's a very good shooter and he's going to have a long NBA career.

Ajinca sucks. =P

Larry Brown, one of the best coaches in the league. I love him, he's great, he's turned this into a serious team for once and I HOPE he sticks around for at least another 2 seasons.

Anyway, I am actually optimistic as a Bobcats fan as I ever have been. We don't have a star, and we don't have a chance at Griffin, but we're on a path to at least playoff contention, which is the first step to not being a joke as a franchise and a destination for legit free agents.

The Bobcats are becoming very good but a playoff team? Were not better then any of the teams who made it but we are getting there and could be with just 1 more.

Dex... we were on pace for 40 wins with Diaw, which is obviously in the playoffs. Considering how easy our schedule started off, I think we might actually have done better had we made the trade in the offseason.

This is why I'm a little confused anyone can be anything but optimistic about next season. As Paydro mentions we were on pace for 40 wins after Diaw/Bell, and that was during 60ish games, not an insignificant amount of time. And what's more, we have ample reason to think that they could have been even better:

1. Significant amount of time lost to Injury from Bell, Augustin, Wallace, and Richardson.
2. 3 games of Tanking at the end. As well as multiple games lost awaiting trades to go through.
3. The schedule before the trade was easier than the schedule after (as mentioned)
4. The obscene amount of time played by Adam Morrison.

There is also ample reason to think we could be better next year.

1. Improvement of DJ and or Lex
2. Incoming Draft picks and Free agents
3. Time to gel, training camp together, etc.

To me all this is more significant than the Hamilton theory of "They played badly for a few stretches in between all the good play, so they suck" Which of course, is unlike all the other teams in the NBA who NEVER have 3 or 4 bad games in a row or lose to bad teams.

My baseline expectation for next year is .500 and the playoffs. If they can get there offensive efficiency and turnovers into the high teens (going from terrible to below average, no great feat) they'll win 45-50 games and be a 4 or 5 seed.
