What's up with all the hate on Stephon Marbury

Post#1 » by BEASTMODE » Tue Apr 21, 2009 4:34 am

Sure, he hasn't contributed that much, but he also hasn't significantly hurt the team. You've got to remember, this is a guy who hasn't played in a year. Give him a break.

I'm expecting this guy to blow up in one of these rounds and win us a game. He's capable of pulling that off. 8-)

Your thoughts?

bad timing, I didn't watch the game (had two finals today) BUT apparently he had an awful game.

But I totally agree that he's a great player to have coming off the bench.

He just didnt have a lot of time to get into a rythm before the playoffs started

not only does he have to get in game shape again, but he had to completely change his game for the most part

hes still rusty, and probably wont bust out the occasional 25+ point games i thought he was capable of, but i still think he can contribute... just been off so far

I hope he gets a training camp and another season here to really get his game going

I really do hope we keep this guy and/or he volunteers to stay for more seasons. He has a lot of potential and could possibly be one of our stars when the Big 3 eventually leave Boston.

He needs to be more selfish. if eddies not making shots, starbury needs to pick up the scoring load. He missed on a lot of open shots tonight.

Marbury has been awful so far in this series. Tonight he was a minus 19 during his time on the court. He passes up open shots, and when he actually DOES shoot, the ball rarely even comes close to going in the basket. And he's not a particularly good playmaker, either.

His offensive PER in the regular season since joining the Celtics was 5.1. That's atrocious.

He's obviously trying hard to fit in to the scheme. Probably trying too hard. But it doesn't seem like the Celtics' scheme meshes with his strengths as a player.

It took Pierce a while to learn how to make the mix of sharing the ball and dominating work smoothly. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Steph had enough time to get that feel on this team.

But, he can bring the ball up and can make some nice passes, hit a few open shots. Hopefully he'll blow up and win a game for us down the line.

At one point in the game he passed up an open shot of about 12 feet to make a pass to Powe under the basket who had a layup...Powe missed it and Doug (I can't coach a lick) Collins gets on his ass about bad ball playing because he makes the extra pass. Last year Collins attacked every shot Sam took, the shot was never a good one in his eyes. Now Marbury can do no right when he passes.
It's the story line the networks want that the C's have no bench. Still singing the Posey/PJ Brown song.

One of these rounds? I'm concerned about getting past the Bulls, let alone winning future rounds. If he's going to win us a game, lets hope it's one of the next two games.

Get used to in. Marbury can do no right, anywhere, to all these "expert" analysis and majority of NBA fans. I really hope he gets a little more PT and bursts out for you guys. He looks like he's trying too hard; I think Doc needs to team Steph that when he is in the game, he needs to be the offense. That is when Marbury is Starbury.

The problem wasn't with Steph it was with the guys he was out there with blowing it on defense. Eddie has had like 3 open looks at the basket while out there with Steph, but he kept passing the ball or trying to shoot off the dribble. If Eddie doesn't play well, Steph doesn't play well. If Eddie doesn't take shots, there is no reason to have him in the game over TA as a 2 guard. He gives up a lot on the other end, so Eddie needs to make up for it on offense. The other guy, Mikki, well let's just say I'd rather see Bill Walker play center.

No hate for Marbury, but it seemed, at least in game 2, that every time Rondo would leave, the Bulls would go on a run. Is it Marbury? I don't know, but that's just what happened.

Before we got Marbury all the negative talk was about what a cancer and team killer he could be. All the positive talk centered on our teams need for a guy on the bench who can drop 20.

Now that he is here we all can see what he really is. He simply has been overpaid for basically being Sebastian Telfair. He just isn't good and he has brought nothing - good or bad - to this team.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Stephon is as old as the big 3. Older maybe.

The hate for Stephan is because of all the bad he has done to other teams.. Every team he has been he has broken it up and once he leaves the team becomes really good.

I guess the gods are not with Stephan for all the evil he has spread in the teams he has been in the past..Stephan has actually brought bad luck to the celtics..

First Garnett , now Powe gets injured.

Just proves he is still Cancerous even if he does not open his mouth..
No wonder his last name has "bury" somewhere in it..

hate? you're crazy. If anything Celtic fans have been extra patient with Marbury and supported him even though he hasn't done much. He's had a few good games but the last 2 weren't among them. I hold nothing against the guy for past stuff- that doesn't matter to me at all. And I understand the rust he has from not playing for a year but he's had 6 weeks with us and a fair amont of minutes and he's still tentative out there. Honestly gabe Pruitt could probably give us more energy than Marbury right now. He looks like Sam Cassell did last year and Sam Cassell has 7 years on Marbury. I would love nothing more than to see him break out and drop 20 and 10 on the Bulls . Maybe Doc needs to take the collar off of marbury and just let himplay.

Marbury is waaaaay inferior to Rondo.

Now, that's when Rondo is playing on an all-world basis. Still, it explains a lot of the questioning from Celtics fans.

I'd like to see Marbury slashing more. He has the ability. If he's not in shape yet to do it, then he SHOULD be criticized for that.

Agreed. He has great finishing ability and still has the speed to take his man off the dribble.

Stop setting up your teammates and take over when we need offense.

Go Steph!

Marbury still does have the capacity to be superclutch and win us a ballgame. He needs to be more aggressive and take wideopen shots/good looks and get into the lane. Marbs will explode at some time. That's a Cold5 GUARANTEE.

That might have been the play where Powe hurt himself too trying to catch a bad pass. :)

Seriously though Marbury doesn't know the game of basketball well enough to contribute. He doesn't know when to pass and when to shoot. It was a different team once he arrived. Surprised the Celtics won as many games as did since he arrived. The Celtics won very few easy games (no blowouts far as I know) since then and relied mostly on key late game heroic's from PP and RA with key contributions from everyone but him and Micky Moore.
