NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
- I have this gut feeling that the New Jersey Nets will try to land Carlos Boozer this summer...
That is IF he really opts out. I'm not quite convinced that he will. He may want to enter the 2010 free agency class too. He can get alot leverage at the PF spot if Bosh and Stoudemire stay with their respective team. But then again, he said he will; we'll wait and see...
- Now the other possibility is trading for him in a «sign and trade» situation.
The Utah Jazz like Paul Millsap alot. I think they feel he can grow with Deron Williams into something similar to Stockton/Malone. With playing time, he is pretty much a 20/10 + he is younger, a better defender and more affordable than Boozer.
The Jazz has nice complementary pieces in Brewer / Korver / Kirilenko (virtually untradable contract wise). But in any trade the Jazz will look forward to get good back-ups at PG/PF/C.
If some way we can put a package matching those requirements (three way trade to be considered as well) or even two of those; the nets might land Boozer.
Let's say Simmons + Anderson + Second round pick = Boozer
Or Even Simmons + Anderson + Williams = Boozer and expiring contract or pick
- The advantage of getting Boozer for New Jersey...
With Boozer, the Nets will have a good mix of veteran-youth core on the floor. And I think they will complement each other nicely, especially with their playing style. His presence may get them deep in the playoffs. And you know what that might mean in 2010, there is one spot left on the starting 5; I'll leave that up to you readers to dream (even though I think it won't happen)
Offensively, just imagine all the pick and rolls, pick and pops, drives and dish between Harris and Boozer, Carter and Lopez and mix it up as you wish. But also on the defensive end, I think Lopez and Boozer will make a great pair under the basket.
- Salary Cap Management
In order to do this and because Boozer will command a salary of $12M or more, The Nets will have to be a little stingy and chose wisely in the upcoming Draft. They will have about $5.4M in expiring contracts by 2010-2011 season.
A couple of salary cap moves this season will help them greatly this year and NO not Carter; why give up 20ppg 5rpg 5apg. Those are very good numbers for a shooting guard. If the Nets do land Boozer this summer, the team should instead trade : Hassell, Hayes, Najera, Ager and Williams possibly for expiring contracts for 2009-2010 season.
- The Team Roster
The Nets should do just fine with a 12 man roster. In this economy, no need to pay 3 guys just to sit on the bench for nothing. Teams will look to be more efficient with their money with the new salary cap. Expect a lot of players to go overseas this summer they will get more money + those contracts are net of taxes...
Starting 5 (If sign and trade with Utah happens - most probable scenario)
5. Brook Lopez
4. Carlos Boozer
3. Chris Douglas-Roberts
2. Vince Carter
1. Devin Harris
------------------------
6. Keyon Dooling (combo guard)
7. Yi Jianlian (can alternate at 4 and 3 and even 5 depending)
8. Josh boone
9. 1st Round Rookie (best if SF/SG Slasher)
10. Jarvis Hayes
11. Expring contract
12. Expiring contract
Let's just enjoy the playoffs for now....

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
Boozer is a guy we should look at:
First, he´s the "moose" we need, he´s avg. 16ppg and 10rpg in a season that was not that great for him.
Second, he would not hurt our salary cap(if we get him via a trade) because his contract will expire after next season, so we could still be in a good position for 2010.(the only problem is that i think it would be very difficult to sign him and a superstar).
If he opts out, though, i don´t wanna him coming here because that would not help our cap flexibility for 2010.

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
I was thinking about this today but I wonder if the Jazz would prefer to just let Boozer walk and reap the benefits of a significant reduction in salaries...
The Nets would have to throw in some serious sweeteners to get the Jazz to agree to a sign and trade...

i think the Jazz will be looking to resign P.Millsap.So, if Boozer opts out, he will likely be wearing a new uniform by next season, once Millsap would be better for the Jazz to go for(i guess the reasons have been said). But, see..if we sign him, say good-bye to Lebron, wade,Bosh, or Stoudemire. So, i hope we can work out a trade.

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
Considering Utah's perilous luxury tax situation (remember they have to deal with Milsap and Okur), they'd let Boozer walk for nothing than take those offers. Anderson and a 2nd rounder isn't worth taking Simmons' contract.

They have to make a tough decision. They simply can't afford all three of those guys.

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
They don't have much of a decision to make. Boozer has an opt out, it's up to him if he want's to opt out and become a UFA this offseason when only about 3 or 4 teams have big capspace and maybe 2 or 3 would consider blowing their load on him, or will he stay and reap the benefits of being a real option for teams that have huge cap space and don't get Lebron, Wade etc.?
Boozer stays for one year they can probably kiss Millsap good bye.
The Nets should try to trade Yi and maybe Hassell for raw cap space and go after Millsap themselves, he would fit in well on this team and he's still pretty damn young himself. Maybe even send Simmons and our lotto pick for a late first rounder and cap space if possible and sign him?

^^^^^^^^I like where your head is at right now VC4pres.I'm not a big Boozer fan because he's injury prone.Boozer is going to stay with the Jazz one more year,he's not giving up that money.I say we send Milsap an offer sheet and see if the Jazz can match it.

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
stevieboy's got a point. If we were looking to land Milsap., it's sometime after Boozer picks up his option. I think they want him badly, but some team could overbid and Jazz could be faced with a tough decision...pay a huge load of money or try to afford some huge contracts.

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
After thinking about it some, I think it is most likely they match any offer for Milsap and let Okur walk. If they allow Milsap to go next year they risk not being able to retain Boozer next year when he becomes a free agent. Okur is also turning 30 over the summer, while Milsap is 24. Koufos is waiting in the wings, after flashing some ability on a Jazz team that traditionally doesn't even realize that rookies are allowed to play in the games. Finding a cheaper more defensive-oriented center while keeping Milsap seems to be the way to go.

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
I wonder if the Nets could acquire AK-47 from the Jazz... His contract only has 2 years left on it, and I think he'd be the perfect power forward to put next to Brook Lopez.
Lopez does a great job of holding his position so that would give Kirilenko plenty of time to come over for weakside blocks.
Not sure what the Nets could offer other than the near instant savings that Bobby Simmons' contract would provide.

I see where you're going here, but why would a team with cap space (Memphis? Detroit? etc.) help the Nets make a run at Milsap instead of making a run at him instead?

Just curious, which would you rather do if you had to choose 1:
Draft Dejuan Blair
or
Make some trades to free up some cash and go after Millsap

Very true, I'm a dreamer though.

Prelude I'd rather sign Millsap than draft Blair. One's a sure thing, the other has to prove himself.

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
Any interest in signing Ron Artest to maybe a 3 year full MLE deal?

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
Another interesting idea is throwing the full MLE at Brandon Bass. I am not sure if he is RFA or UFA, but if he is UFA he may very well accept that offer, figuring there might not be any better one's out there, especially if he was promised to start and get big minutes.

Re: NETS LANDING BOOZER ???
I have no interest in signing any player to a multi-year deal unless it is combined with a trade of Simmons + pick #10 for a key player or the trade of Carter for more cap room.
I understand the chances of landing LeBron or any other max-FA aren't great, but this team isn't anywhere near close enough to contention to blow that potential free agent opportunity on Artest or Bass.
