Paul Coro Chat

Post#1 » by MaryvalesFinest » Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:11 am

So today Paul Coro held his end of the year Suns chat. I asked him numerous questions like if he's on Robert Sarver's payroll and if he has ties to the mob, of course those weren't answered but I did ask him a question that he replied to below,

4:23 [Comment From Guest]
Can you ask Suns management to let the fans vote on who they want at #14? If the players gone they can than just go down to list to see who has the next highest amount of votes?

4:23 Paul Coro: Sure. If they don't want to do it, we'll put it on our site as a survey.

I brought up this same point earlier last year, not many people wanted Lopez and Dragic and Suns management should have held a poll on their website to let the fans vote on who they want. I'm actually surprised he's going to ask but that's going to be sweet if we can vote on who we want the Suns to draft. If not it would still be good because we can hold Sarver and Kerr accountable with that survey he's going to put out.

He also brought up some other interesting facts

-Amare only attended two Suns games after his eye surgery, the first one after he was cleared and just another one.

-The Suns are high on Jonny Flynn and Stephen Curry so don't be surprised if the Suns draft a pg at #14 if one of them are still on the board...

-Terry Porter tricked the Suns organization into thinking he would still run and instead pulled a complete 180...

and much more...

You can find the rest of the questions at the chat right here

 nice

I'm sure they had fun sorting through your pile of BS questions ...judging by the time that you submitted them I'm guessing you were celebrating 420...

That'd be nice if fans could vote on the draft pick but then what do they do just fire their scouts and throw away the years of reports and evals on these guys? A team would never do it but keep on dreamin

If maryvale gives Robert Sarver idea then we might not be seeing Nash, Amudson next season. :(

What a mad chat. Answered a lot of questions, especially locker-room talk and front office intentions.

I guess the Shaq for Chandler trade is out the window. I always knew there was something fishy about the article since it came from NY but I kept hoping.

As for giving the fans a say in their draft pick, I think that's absurd. As much as I think and the next person think we know more about the players in the draft and who we think is an ideal fit, there are guys who make a living out of scouting and they work very closely with the team, I think they know better than us. Sure there have been many busts in the past, but we can only judge on what we see and what we've heard from scouts, the scouts themselves do a lot more out of the public eye.

I'm glad Coro did this chat, cleared up a lot of things.

Interesting Coro response re the players and Porter:

[Comment From David Anderson]
Suns management has a history of saying that they will not trade a player or that they like and support someone, shortly thereafter that person is traded or gone. How can fans or players trust this management team? To what extent does management and coaching (past and present) work with team leaders (like Nash, Shaq, Grant, etc.) to get the best out of the team?

Paul Coro: I think Kerr has gone out of his way to say nobody is untouchable, almost to a fault with some players who were offended. Sarver misspoke last year when he said nobody in the core would be traded before the Shaq-Marion deal. He never had an idea that was coming and just had spoke too soon. I think every management talks about building a consistent winner but isn't going to be an open book about how it wants to watch its money. As for how management and coaching works with team, it's been different from person to person. D'Antoni worked closely with Nash and took head to anything Shaq said. He was on the same page with Hill. Those three captains had a different relationship with Porter. Nash spoke frequently with Porter but never appeared to be combative. He said he was trying to make it work but obviously had some other ideas that he wanted to bring up to him. Hill too. Shaq appeared to be much the same with Porter, except for putting himself in the game and walking right by him when he did so. Colangelo communicated more with coaches the players, its seemed. Kerr talks with players often on the court and private. Both had a mix and a lot of is unseen to us.

Paul Coro: All of the above. It probably could have gone fine if not for the culmination of things. They seemed to be all approving of the hire before camp and had a lot of respect for Porter and what he had accomplished as a player. The older veterans had played against him. But they were immediately taken aback at camp and got off on the wrong foot. Raja Bell symbolized the discontent by speaking out. The others were just quietly uncomfortable with his ways. They seemed to feel demeaned by the school drills. They felt the messages were basic and monotonous. All these guys had asked for more of a defensive emphasis and got it so that couldn't have been the biggest beef. But they saw the change in offense to Detroit's system as an ill fit and one that did not fit the style that the roster was built to play. There was no budging. Even when Porter later agreed to bring back some plays from previous seasons, he changed the names of them.

why should the suns listen to who the fans want to draft?

we dont conduct the workouts

we dont scout these players for the last 4 years

we dont interview these guys and their families and background checks

with all due respect, the suns should listen to fans when it comes to certain things, but not the draft

I think you missed Coro's sarcasm man...the Suns won't ever do that, and Coro is not about to ask either.
