Bobcats War Room- First Pick

Post#1 » by August Us Seazr » Wed Apr 22, 2009 3:07 pm

Okay, come draft lottery, we do the miraculous and score the first pick. Which of these guys helps us through the "playoff rookie" stage and leads us to the "Promised Land" called Championship Contender. By all the mocks, these guys are the cream of this year's crop. Vote until 7 PM Thursday night.

Get us a great one, guys.

Now I'm August Us Seazr, the voter. What can I say about him that no one else has said about him?

OK. If lightning strikes (7/10ths of 1 percent worth) and we get the top pick- Griffin changes everything about this team. This could be the star we have waited five years for. The guy to build around.

And on the negative side- a low BUST factor.

Your turn.

Blake Griffen. If we were any other team though I might go with Thabeet but Griffen is safer.

What if we get #2? Thabeet
#3? Harden

John Wall is still up in the air, I believe. I think he'll declare without an agent. If he is in...it will be a hard look between the two.

I'd probably still take Griffin, but that means we'd need to trade somebody - and I'd like to keep Diaw...and Wallace.....and Okafor...........

That's where I get stuck too. Draft for need or draft BPA or break up the core?

In the end, I went with the power house that is Blake Griffin.

Yes but drafting Blake Griffen would be drafting for a need because what we really need is a star and not another good role player. You can't win in the playoffs with just role players.
Plus with Blake we could choose who to keep between all frontcourt players being so versitle we could keep or trade anyone of them we want to make room for Blake.
Besides Thabeet I do like alot and could be better but it's a risk. I was wrong when I said can't miss. We obviously don't need a pg so Rubio is out and Harden is not a #1 pick even though we need a 2.

IMO you should draft the best player available 90% of the time. You should always do whatever you can to bring up the overall talent level of the team. If you have holes in your roster you can make trades or play with the line-ups later.

Well I used to agree with that and still do for the most part but the Spurs and Jazz say the always draft for need and they are the 2 teams who get the most steals.
Parker and Manu were drafted for need.
Millsap was drafted because they needed a backup 4.

No other viable option if we get #1. Kid will be great.

I'm a little surprised that Rubio hasn't gotten a single vote, I voted for Griffin but I don't think Rubio is that far behind.

Griffin and Rubio are pretty close in my eyes, but with 2 great pg's already, 0 % chance we pass on Griffin.

No question in my mind who we would/should take.

Thanks for putting him on top so I didn't even have to read the rest of the names. It is a joke to suggest anyone else, even Rubio carries the same loaded-position issues people have mentioned for Griffin.

Okay- Gotta call it. Our first name on the big War Room Board is Blake Griffin. Not unanimous, but
pretty darn near. 19-2.

Much better turnout than last year. Thank you for your opinions. Now, on to our next pick!
