That's the title of this HoopsWorld article because evidently Josh Smith said that if the Hawks lose in round 1 the season would be a failure. I missed that statement, but I don't doubt he said it. The article points out that Marvin Williams didn't necessarily agree in a 680 interview (it links to his interview as well).
Disappointment, sure. Failure? To me the word failure has a much stronger connotation than just not achieving one's goals, but in the strict sense would be accurate. It's probably the wrong time to ask the question after the loss at Philips last night, but do you fall with Josh or Marvin on this subject? Do the Hawks have to win this series for the season to not be a failure?

Re: Hawks Define Failure
The fourth seed is not a failure. They developed this year.
The scenario that comes closest to failure would be to lose the next four games and get eliminated at home. That would feel like a failure but really it would be demoralizing but not a failure in my opinion. But if you wanted to call that a failure I wouldn't argue the point.
What the Hawks need to do now is show some heart like they did last year.
I believe.

I would consider a loss in the first round as a failure. After so many years of rebuilding it is time to expect some results.

Exactly. Alot of the BK supporters will always point to the team he help built in Memphis that eventually made the playoffs...but that team lost 12 straight playoff games. I don't expect a championship team(in part because we passed on 3 great players in 2 years)but we deserve a "contending" team after all the crap years we have been through. I'm not going to overreact because I still feel the series is very winnable but I would consider this year a waste if the Hawks managed to lose to a one man 43 win team in the first round.
