It broke my heart every time I watched Jordan was dominating in NBA. He kept reminding me of Bias dunking over him in college. Just imagine if Bias were alive playing in NBA. Jordan would never have won a title maybe once or twice.

Re: How did you feel when Len Bias died ?
My mom heard about it and ran to tell my dad when he was in the shower. Then my dad told me later on. I didn't understand, really, I was only 7 years old, but when the C's lost in the '87 Finals and then began their decline it became clearer how much of an effect it had. So sad for the kid *and* the team. And as with the Reggie Lewis death (which really bothered me...I was 14 by then) it was nice of the league to help us out in those times of tragedy (obvious bitter sarcasm)...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

It was absolutely low point of my fandom - personally I always felt Bias would have been a bigger star then any of the guys coming out today. Throw in the fact that when your so much younger sports seems to mean more.. It was heartbreaking..

Re: How did you feel when Len Bias died ?
I was 12 when Bias died, it was one of the worst things I could think of happening. It was probably the first time I understood what the adults were talking about as opposed to just knowing they were sad and upset. I was also a big Gerald Henderson fan and never really liked the trade to begin with.
Bias was going to be great, the NBA was different before Jordan. SF was the position and you had to be able to shoot and rebound you could not get away breaking guys down off the dribble in the half court and taking it to the hole the bigs would just break you in half. Bias was hyper athletic like MJ but he could shoot the ball and he was bigger. I just remember he was going to be the next Alex English, who was probably my favorite non Celtic at the time, excluding my closet love Magic Johnson.
He was probably more Vince Carter (minus all the crap that makes you hate him) than Lebron James but damn special.
As for 5 grams of blow it certainly would lay that "it was his first time" myth to rest that they laid on us, and I wouldn't recommend it but it is certainly not outside of the realm of reason especially when you factor in it did kill the man.
As terrrible as this was it doesn't really compare to the whole Reggie Lewis thing which was just torture.

Do you guys think someone actually murdered him somehow. I just CANNOT understand why would he do cocaine. Even the most stupidest person knows snorting 5 grams will stop your heart immediately. That's why I CANNOT BELIEVE he snorted 5 grams...a gram or two sure... but 5 no way...nose cannot absorb that much cocaine, period.

Re: How did you feel when Len Bias died ?
I would have given anything to be a professional athlete or an amateur one competing at the highest levels (running and triathlons were my speciality, although I loved hockey and basketball). +100 miles a week in my running days, 12 workouts a week in my Triathlon days was the effort I put in to get into the top 10 percentile of competitors. To have the physical gift to compete at the highest level would have been so special.
To this day, I still can't forgive Bias for what he did, my reaction was anger at him. Not because of the negative effects of the results on the Celtics. But because he threw away an athletic gift I would have loved to have. What a waste.

Absolutely true. Life is too short to waste on stupid drugs.

I was only 6 so I don't quite remember...
To me the main analogy is this - he was our James Worthy. Championship team sitting with a high draft pick after suckering some team in a trade for a spare part. Sounds like they were similar players too - except it sure sounds like Bias could have been better. Can you imagine the Lakers without Worthy? They would've looked a lot like us in the late 80's early 90's, aging team contending but no longer the frontrunner.

Forgot to mention, a funny side note.
I lived in Cleveland, and Don Rogers of the Browns died under similar circumstances around the same time.
I remember hearing that Don Rogers died, and being scared that people meant Mister Rogers.
