Bobcats War Room - Second Pick, 2009

Post#1 » by August Us Seazr » Fri Apr 24, 2009 2:26 am

First Pick on the Big Board is Blake Griffin. I want to thank each of you for your participation.

Now on to the second pick. Just a hunch, but I think this vote will be a leeeeetle bit closer (than 19-2). This should be very interesting. I know that it'll take me a while to decide.

Besides, we're still in "lightning striking us" territory. But man would it be nice to choose from a somewhat open field of candidates!

Claw ON!

   If we pick second, I'm picking Rubio- not for us, but for the highest bidder. This player is one of the crown jewels of this draft. Pretty much a situation exists where someone will offer us crazy great stuff to land this one.

This is our first best opportunity to hit the jackpot in terms of making this team totally into Larry Brown's image. :D Should yield a pretty good shooting guard plus a couple of # 1 picks.

What do you think?

Gotta go with Rubio here.... when you can take a star, you do it, and Rubio has tremendous value. He's good enough that we might look back and laugh at the notion that we wouldn't want him over DJ or Felton. Plus he'll sell tickets and attract attention.

I'd rather pick Harden so we have our big, potential laden SG. I'd prefer to trade down vs drafting Rubio and trading him. Also, isn't there an 8mm buyout needed for him? I know Rubio will eat some of that but I doubt all of it.

Wow...I knew he was 18 but I never did the math. The kid was born in 1990. Man I'm old.

ugh... the whole world knows i would take rubio, if it was my team, but this is LB, so i selected harden, even though i'm not entirely convinced he is worthy of that high of a selection.

I'm really surprised... in my opinion making a position-based decision here is worse than Mayo over Beasley, it's probably more like taking Horford over Durant. Rubio is an elite prospect, we would be a laughingstock for passing on him for any reason.

NBA teams are only allowed to pay $500k for buyouts (to prevent the Knicks from just stocking up foreign players) so we can't get screwed money-wise. Worst possible case is that Rubio stays for one more year and comes over as a 19 year old.

It's always hard gauging Eruo's. We had the same problem with Bargs. He sounds great on the surface, but without being able to actually watch him it's hard to have an informed opinion. Rubio looked pretty good during the Olympics, but he also looked to have his limitations.

What if he ends up like a taller Brevin Knight? The flip side of that of course is that he ends up like a playoff '08/'09 version of Rondo.

Either way, it's not like Harden is a slouch. I think he's totally justifiable as the BPA AND in that he plays a position of need.

I'd grab Rubio and flip him for an allstar.

Europeans don't count as white, Fats.

I don't think Brevin Knight is Rubio's downside, because it's a virtual guarantee that Ricky will be able to play high-level defense in the NBA (though they do both have very fast hands).

I put his best/worst at Jason Kidd versus Andre Miller minus some scoring. I think he's a virtual guarantee to stick in the league as a quality defender/passer.

Again though, I don't think it matters... you have to take him just on value alone, ship him off if you really don't want him.

If we get Rubio we should ship out Felton or DJ, not him....He will never be compared to Brevin Knight for various reasons.

- He's taller
- He shoots better from 3pt range (shooting 3pters at all makes him different from BK)
- He has the potential to be a better defensive player

Go watch the Olympic finals again if you don't believe me, the fact that an 18 year old kid didn't look out of place in a game with Lebron/Kobe/Wade etc. is telling.

Patty Mills gave the USA guards fits too. Does that shoot him up draft boards?
