I understand where she is coming from.

There is no need for it at an NBA game, especially when parents like to take their children to the game.

If it truly is dancing, it can be done with longer skirts and less revealing tops.

I don't mind the dancers, and I suppose what they do adds an element of entertainment to some fans, so it's worth it. I can see where the thought of them being objectified comes from, but they seem to buy into it and if it makes them happy, good for them. I doubt they're being paid much, so they're doing this for fun, to further a career, or just because they can.

There are times when the outfits are a little... surprising. But, alas, it seems to be working.

I think that hot chicks will get objectified wherever they go, whether they're dancing for the Blazers, working in a coffee shop, or sitting in the library. I also think that many hot chicks enjoy the attention, which is why Blazer dancers seem not to mind working for peanuts.

I think that concerns about the dancers on behalf of kids are silly. Cheerleaders have been at sporting events for a very long time, and kids don't run out of the arena crying because they see happy dancing hot chicks. When I was a kid, I didn't notice the cheerleaders at all. This is more about people not wanting to be reminded of the extremely high value we place on female attractiveness in our society, but removing the cheerleaders won't make that go away.

While a few of their routines are a bit much for a family place, for the most part there is nothing wrong with it. What they wear is just fine. I have yet to see 1 outfit that is more revealing than a bathing suit (something every person in that arena has seen a girl wear, I would hope). I know a girl on the dance team, and she absolutely loves what she does. She never said that she felt objectified by it whenever I talked to her about it. She just said that she enjoys dancing, and loves the Blazers. Just tone down a couple of their routines that they have done in the past and I dont think there's any issue.

There's basketball at the Blazer games? I thought that was just entertainment while the strippers, errrr... dancers change and prepare for their next set. I always wondered why they made the ceiling so friggin high that you couldn't get put up a friggin pole. I'll have to check it out next time I go watch the strippers, uh... basketball game. It sure saves me money though compared to what I'd spend at Stars!

Seriously, the outfits are not that revealing and the dancing is not very erotic. I think it is a nice break for the people to take a breath from complaining about every call that does not go the Blazers way. These women compete very hard every year for the right to be a Blazers dancer.

If anything, the halftime show should reflect the people of Portland. Portland has the most strip clubs per capita, so there should be a stage and poles out there along with the creepy guy calling toilet humor on the mic.

This seems like an absolutely absurd conversation to me. I hate this mindset where we have to call out everything that might be perceived to be the slightest bit sexual and pull the old "what about the kids" crap. This isn't about the kids, it's about somebody elses insecurities plain and simple.

Blazer games have been selling out for a while, so I don't see the need for any major change.

I think all teams have dancers, so it is certainly commonly thought of as a standard part of the game experience. Anyone who is offended has the option of not going or averting their eyes.

I have no doubt that the women dancing at the games are there for their looks and ability to follow a routine during a short amount of time in a skimpy - semi-skimpy outfit. I would still believe that that the vast majority of fans for the Blazers are men & until this changes I don't think the Blazers would have any plans to change the outfits the dancers wear.

As a 20-something male and don't want the outfits to change, ;D! Frankly I wonder how much titillation someone could get when they're 2 - 3 stories up in the Rose Garden. The dancers are always heavily made-up and this is probably because they have to try to grab/keep the attention in a huge arena where everyone doesn't have the best seats in the house.

There was a lot more sig-worthy stuff in the post before I edited it for language--I was majorly tanked last night when I wrote it. I hadn't been torn-up like that in a LONG time--FUN stuff!

I just still believe that watching a well choreographed dance is much better and much more rare than watching women shake their ass in skimpy clothing. I was just stating what peaked my interest more as a fan (in a basketball arena).

While I agree that the way the lady came across was a little extreme, I don't think she is off the mark. The point is not that they are dancing provocatively, but that they are doing so publicly at a venue that is meant to be family oriented and accessible to any kind of audience. Are we going to say that anyone who doesn't like it doesn't have to watch? And if we took that approach, where does it stop.

No one is attempting to dictate what you are allowed to do in the privacy of you own home or other designated area, but this is a Blazer game. I have had similar thoughts about cheerleaders in all sports. Is it "wrong"? Well, that is left the each individual to decide... however if it is allowed to be broadcast or displayed publicly, then someone else is determining what is "right" or "wrong" for the viewer.

Sport should be sport and sexually explicit or suggestive behavior doesn't have to be part and parcel.

If we can separate the two, then no one is pushing their morals on anyone else. Unless of course you feel that your children should watch attractive women dance suggestively with little clothing.

Also, about the Hooters comment... there are literally hundreds of restaurants to choose from in Portland/Oregon/Idaho/Washington... but currently there is only one professional basketball team. Its not even close to the same thing.

Imagine the uproar in Texas at such a suggestion.

I imagine there would be quite an uproar, but that is not my point. There are many things that people like that are not necisarily good for everyone else (i.e. young children whose parents may not want them exposed to such things at a young age). Its simply about not pushing your (or anyone's... not meant as an attack toward you) morals/wants on those who don't agree.

So, giving people the option of not having to see that at a public basketball game is "pushing" my morals? You can watch girls dance with little to no clothing all you want in Portland at any time (see the most strip clubs per capita comment) without subjecting others to it who may not share your beliefs/opinions. Having girls dance without being sexually suggestive would allow everyone to watch without being "pushed" in any way. Unless, like I mentioned before, you think everyone should be watching that... as in, it is best that everyone sees it.
