2009 AL East Discussion Thread
I thought I'd start a thread to discuss all other teams not including the Jays.. it seems that whenever a post or comment wants to be made regarding another game, it would just be placed into the Series Thread... so I'll just create this thread, and hopefully we can generate discussions on other teams around the league..
So speaking of which...... How about the Yankees getting crushed by the Indians 22-4? What an opening series to the new Yankee Stadium...
Edit: By request I'm going to sticky this thread and change it to an AL East discussion thread. Next season It would be nice to have someone keep the games and standings updated in the first post like the playoff race thread we had on the Raptors board this past season.
If anyone wants to volunteer that would be great for next season.

Wang is just so bad right now. I dont know when was the last time someone allowed so many runs in their first 3 starts of the season. 23 runs in the first 3 starts and a total of 6 IP? I really want to see how he does this.

I won't worry about the Yankees yet as they historically start slow and pick it up later in the year. Otherwise...just the Marlins stick out. It's too early.

that's why it's so important for the Jays to keep building on their lead... You just know that the Red Sox and Yankees will just turn it on, and you want to give yourself a good cushion

Re: Around the League
I was laughing uncontrollably today when I saw that score, maybe I hate them too much. Serves them right though, spending $150 billion to overpay every available FA in the offseason will come back to haunt them. The chemistry just won't be there. I'm also loving that these blowouts are coming during their first series in the new stadium. I remember all the hype surrounding the home opener, then bam, they get blown out 10-2 (which was bad, but nothing in comparison to this absolute slaughter today).

^^
You don't need chemistry in baseball. You don't want guys hating each other in the clubhouse. And you need the pitcher and catcher to know each other. But the rest of the team are just individuals.

That was a terrrible game by the Yankees. Wang should be demoted.
And how 'bout them Marlins. 10-1 record. They seem to battle it out every season and make something happen. They're a special team..

Yeah, it looks like the Yanks will be doing something about it....

Chien-Ming Wang says that he feels fine despite a 34.50 ERA, but the Yankees are expected to skip his next turn in the rotation.
His next scheduled start is Friday against the Red Sox, but with an off day on Thursday, manager Joe Girardi is expected to skip him.
"I feel fine today," Wang said Saturday after giving up eight runs on eight hits in a little over an inning. "Today the ball was down. I make a mistake with a slider."
Only made a mistake with the slider?

lol good idea to rest him against the Red Sox...

"a" mistake? I didn't know you could hit an 8-run homer off one pitch.

I have to admit I thought it's hilarious that they gave up a 14-run second inning. Just because they're the Yankees. If it was anyone, nobody would really care much.

Baltimore had as good a record as Toronto a short while ago. now Toronto are at 10-4 with a +29 run differential and Baltimore are 6-7 with a -29 run differential

How do you guys feel with Cito at the helm again? I admit I'm not as good at picking out the intricacies of managing as some baseball fans, but it seems he has helped give this team a new type of attitude since he came. The Star said our team has had a 61-41 record since he was re-hired. Of course, this year's team is quite different from last year's but it seems like he might have managed to get the best out of last year's team (and gave us a shot at postseason play), if he had been hired sooner. So far we're off to a pretty good start, so it seems like this year's team is playing to its current strengths as well. It'll be interesting to see how the team is doing 3 months from now.

Cito was once a very good batting coach (he was the teams batting coach before taking over as manager the first time around), so it's not that surprising that their hitting has picked up since he took over. Along with the pitching coach from Arnsberg, it looks good so far.
