But then I've also wondered (and I've posted this here before), if Ted just likes to take injured players in the first and second round, so that he has leverage in contract negotiations. Hmmm.

As with Harrell, I'd be really leery of picking a guy with that high a pick (and that much guaranteed money) if he's coming off a major injury. We learned with Joe Johnson that torn biceps don't really heal and are a pretty bad injury for DL guy, yet we took Harrell. Stress fractures aren't so great either. I mean is Crabtree worth it compared to what the downside risk is?

With a guy like Jenkins, if he turns into Leroy Butler or Ronnie Lott, that type of guy is easily worth as much or more than if Crabtree turns into Sterling Sharpe. We won a SB two years after Sharpe retired. But our secondary went down the drain in 2003-04 after Butler left the scene.

The more I read though, the more I think Crabtree is a big smokescreen on Ted's part.

He has bad knees, an OL with bad knees is a terrible investment.

Monroe only missed I believe 2 games and performed at a high level throughout his collegiate career.

He'll be off the board before 9 though.

I'm just as concerned about the OL and Defense as the next guy, but can you imagine our 5 wide receiver sets if we took Crabtree...

...how does anyone hope to cover all those guys? Assuming our O-Line can provide any sort of protection for A-Rod, we'd have a very very scary passing game.

Quite an assumption. Tauscher out for start of season and may not even be resigned. Clifton creaky knees not even able to practice full time last year. Beno 1 yr from being a TE and no experience or even one start. Tony Moll? Duke Preston who was barely adequate on the interior and coaches say he'll stay at interior.

DEs will eat Rodgers for breakfast. No time for deep routes - quick slants and dumps that will be anticipated and intercepted. Rodgers hammered to serious injury.

Not to mention crap run blocking on edges.

This may not happen but I'd not risk our QB.

Lot's of possibilities here depending on who falls. I for one wouldn't pass on Crabtree if he falls. I think you can find servicable offensive lineman, if not dominant ones, after round one. Rodgers is athletic enough to buy his own time so he wouldn't necessarily need a pure stone wall to protect him like say a Kurt Warner.

I'm also high on Jenkins at #9. I tend to trust skill positions (RB, WR, DB) high in the draft more than O/D-line and linebackers when the bust factor is considered. Big guys that can buy the quarterback 5-6 seconds and defensive linemen that can hold up against the run in most cases can be had outside of the high rounds. This isn't to say that the same isn't true for every other position, but I prefer taking the elite skill player whenever you have the chance to take them.
