Mike Miller for cap space?

Post#1 » by shrink » Sat Apr 25, 2009 8:04 pm

I had an interesting side discussion on the trade board, when asked if I'd trade Mike Miller stright up for 2009 raw cap space.

Would you?

If we don't move up in the lottery, we'll have $2-$3 mil in space under the lux. Add in Miller, and we're at $12-$13. If we renounce our exceptions, we could make offers bigger than the MLE for players like Marvin Williams, or trade raw cap space to teams that need it even more than us (MIL, NOH, WAS).

Mike Miller is productive, and he's already an expiring. I know I'm a giant fan of cap space, but I wanted to know what you guys thought. Right now, would you trade Miller for $10 mil of raw cap space?

Not that cap space isn't an important variable for teams, but the wolves are still short of talent all over(not PF of course). I'd prefer to trade miller for a younger player who has shown some possibilities(example would be Mike Conely, although I haven't explored trade options there) and some space instead of just cap space.

That way you'd already have an up-and-comer on a rookie contract instead of hoping to sign someone later(which we should still be able to do). I'm assuming of course that the wolves either trade or let go a number of players like ollie and carney to free roster spots.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I'd have to pass on that. What good will capspace do us anyways? It'll just entice us to overpay for more mediocre players we don't need. The man wants to be here so let's keep him as an expensive 6th man and veteren influence unless a really good trade comes up.

I would; right now with so many teams trying to get under the luxury tax; we could use that 12 million to help a few teams reach that goal and get some nice compensation that could help us out long term.

I feel like we could get Gerald Wallace w/ Miller + something reasonable. He's productive as hell, but his contract is long and he's injured a lot and I think we could tempt them with delicious cash savings.
They've already decided having a summer league team is an expense they don't need, time to strike. I don't think they can afford to have Larry Brown, Diop, Okafor, Diaw, Radmanovic, Nazr, Wallace, and Bell all sucking up their cash and the only movable piece is Wallace.

I agree, and I think with our cap space and youth, Gerald Wallace or even Okafor are likely candidates if CHA doesn't do great by the trade deadline.
