Bobcats War Room- Third Pick - 2009

Gentlemen,

Please serve yourself a refreshing beverage over at our buffet table and get ready to take care of today's business. Up for discussion and vote is the Bobcats pick at # 3. While there is less than a 2% chance of achieving this pick, we sure would be grateful to that ol' lottery ball machine if it spit out one of our combinations. :rockon:

We have two people on our big board- our latest pick, Ricky Rubio of Spain, and Blake Griffin of the University of Oklahoma.

You will collectively decide our third name. Please choose well. Think putting a "STAR" player in Bobcats Blue, Orange, or White. We all remember the recent history of the 3rd pick. High- Michael Jordan, part owner of this team- selected 3rd by the Chicago Bulls. Low- Adam Morrison selected 3rd by the Bobcats. Let's rid ourselves of the low point memory, shall we?

Let me mention again that I have set this up so that IF you change your mind, you CAN change your vote. Now, on with the voting until 9 PM Monday night, when we begin our 4th pick vote. Good Luck!

I voted Thabeet realizing that this could be early for him.

However, with Coach Calhoun stating that Thabeet was the BEST defensive player he had ever coached, (seems that would include Emeka Okafor- on our team and no slouch on d.) I have to give him some consideration. Look, he was late getting started with basketball. If in 5 years of organized basketball he can achieve a recommendation like that, wow. And above all, not too much wear and tear on the body.

But tell me something, nobody else who has worn a Bobcats uni was 7' 3". Friends, you can't coach 6'10" into 7' 3". That is God-given stuff there. Do you think Mek might WANT to give power forward a try if Thabeet is backing him up in the middle?

Oh, yeah. And have Coach Capel working with them in tandem on their free throw shooting! Apparently Coach Calhoun got crossed up with Allen Iverson on the free throw stuff-" Practice Free Throws--- We're talking about practicing "FREE THROWS"?!?!?!?!" :rofl2:

Just my opinion,

Primoz Brezec was 7'1". But seriously, we need a center who can block shots, get backed down by really strong guys, and never score on offense like we need a hole in the head. He can be a good role player, maybe even starter on the next level, but he has no star potential AND he's at a position we do not need.

I voted "write in" for Tyreke Evans. As I said in the manifesto thread, I think he has the highest ceiling of anyone else in the draft.

Right now DraftExpress has him going #7, as does Chad Ford, so... probably not.

I now realize that I said "anyone in the draft," I should have said "anyone LEFT" or "any SG" because I obviously like Rubio and Griffin more.

Harden to fill our needs at shooting guard or Thabeet just because players like him don't come around often and he affects everyone's shot on defense.

Wayyyy to high for Thabeet...

The guy flat out can't score in the NBA. I wouldn't pick him in the top 5, he has the biggest bust potential of anybody in the top 10 in my opinion.

This argument cuts both ways, maybe he just has 10 or 12 less years experience then the rest of the draft. He shows one characteristic of "late starters" in that he cant catch the ball to save his life. (I've used the same argument about Ajinca actually, so maybe I'm a hypocrite)

Also, if we use the Hamilton theory of racial drafting we should avoid drafting African players. (Not African-Americans, they have done pretty well)

I went with Harden.

The god of the board says Harden should be 3 so it should be. I have spoken.
