Does anyone think there is a chance we make a deal before the deadline of next season with our non ray allen expirings? I got the idea while talking with a friend who is a bulls fan. He said he thought the team would trade Heinrich if they could shed his salary. That seems like a stretch but it got me thinking, is there anyone we could get?
Also, I wonder if Ainge in his future signings will try to make a few things expire at the same time to grant us an oppertunity to make one big trade down the road.
Thoughts?
Can we get anything for Scal, Allen and any other expirings?

It will definitely be possible, however most of the options will be long-term MLE signings (think Poseys contract) and i question whether DA would want to take on salary for extended periods of time
as a fan.... i hope so, i think we could pick up someone useful from a team in cost cutting mode

Re: Can we get anything for Scal, Allen and any other expirings?
Obviously teams will look to shed long term salaries but usually you are talking about overpriced ones, Hinrich is a good example, a very good player but a guy who is probably coming off the bench for a championship team so he makes about 3 mil more than his value. The other problem is everyone in the league has expiring contracts going into '10-'11 off season so their value alone is non existent.
I think they may be at their highest value or at least most likely to be used this off season in a S&T trade deal were a team would like to get some value out of a FA or Veteran under contract but don't want to impact their cap space for '10-'11. The hard part for most of these pieces is their willingness to come off the bench because I don't think Boston can afford to mess with what is essentially the besting starting 5 in the league when healthy.
I think if Boston could come out of the this off season with a re signed Baby, Kirk Hinrich or similar player, and Antonio McDyess they would be in good position. The nice part about Hinrich is that he is a defender and most guys that will fit the description of "nice player but with too big a contract" either don't defend or are brain dead or both. Jamal Crawford is a player that I think will be in that situation and fits that definition. Now if there is an inner defender in there to find he could be an heir apparent for Ray Allen.
What Boston can put together is Scal/TA/Pruitt/Giddens combined they would return 9.8 mil in salary, not an attractive lot but for a team with a lot of holes to fill for one season better than trying to do it with min salary slots. Boston adds a 1st round pick (which shouldn't be a problem after the draft).
I would think bigs and guys who can play both guards spots make the most sense as it will be easier to get them starter mins off the bench though a combo forward may work as well.

we've got to re-sign rondo and probably Baby so onve again Danny is going to be in a situation where he needs to find inexpensive help. If scal doesn't retire I would try and re-sign him for cheap money ( as I would Leon). tony ALlen is definitely trade bait either before or at the deadline. I'd trade him today if I could. Still, it's obvious that we need more than what we have particularly with Leon out. I would lokve a big man and another shooter but unless wyc and co decide they have to go for it and say screw the cap I don't see us getting any big name player

Everything depends on how much the Celtics want to go over the $69 million luxury tax threshold. This off-season looks like they will have options. The big question is will they take a $80, $90, $100 etc million payroll. Only the Celtics management knows. I would pay more now to max PP, RA & KG stay in Boston but it's not my money.

If I am not mistaken, due to the late season trades we made with POB and Alien, we have a $1.5 Mil trade exception as well.
I would send Scal, TA, (maybe JR or Pruitt) and our trade exception to LA to get Camby. The Clippers will move him, they have Kaman signed to a long term deal which I don't think anyone would be willing to pick up in a trade, and Camby's on the last year of his contract.
Washington is going into the postseason with a $75 Mil payroll for next year...Brendon Haywood?
NO is looking to blow up their team...Posey anyone?
Or a completely different deal to get a young big man. I'd take either Wright or Randolph off Don Nelson's hands. We know how much he likes bigs.

I think Posey would be an easy get with NO in cost saving mode, but management didnt want to give him the years before.. i cant see them paying him now he just went through another season
After this playoffs though.. we definately need a back up swingman we can rely on... trade, sign, whatever it is we need one.... and anyone who knows how to play basketball over 6'10
