Is The NBA Rigged?

Post#1 » by bflewis » Sun Apr 26, 2009 4:18 am

So, I was looking through one of the forums and seen some one claim that the NBA is rigged.
I have had this feeling ever since Game 6 in 2001... + Have seen other things that popped out 2 me...
For instance, Chicago and Cleveland getting their hometown players...
With us having the highest chance of getting the #1 pick, I think it is a good idea to argue if the NBA is rigged, because that will definitely impact how our lottery balls fall.

That was probably me because I say it a lot. I think all the evidence points to it being rigged. Except San Antonio being a dynasty because they are a small market team. You can only rig it to an extent though.

I hope your notion is quite off the cuff here..despite the latest claims in the lotto that back it up. But if your correct :o Kings would get the 4th pick...trade down to the 6th and get the DeRozan?? :D

I think Stern is obsessed with good story lines, that bring drama. So anything that could happen to make a good story it almost always happens. Lebron is Cleveland, Rose in Chicago, etc. Kings vs. Lakers, that series was with out a DOUBT rigged. Even Donaghy came out and said that it was rigged, and I'm sorry I just don't believe that he would come out and say that for no reason. I doubt he got caught and just figured "I'm gonna take everyone else down with me!" The only way he would have that mentality is if others were guilty too. I also do not like how the NBA is just sweeping all of that under the rug. When is the last time you heard anyone address his remarks? Was there an investigation? Also Miami's road to the championship in 2007 I think? Refs guided that team to a championship, watch the tape. Why? Shaq promised a championship in Miami, Miami had never won a ship, Pat Riley took over, GP hadn't won a title, it just fit like a story book. "Star treatment" is bullsh** in my opinion. I don't know if anyone else would consider that rigged, but certainly would. That's not basketball, that's entertainment. I'm suspicious of the Pau Gasol trade and the Kevin Garnett trade, and how both GM's gave their best allstar players away to their old teams for garbage (except Jefferson). Just pay attention to the headlines and look at how everything seems like it's from a movie, I don't think that is all a coincidence. This is a star's league built for entertainment, not for basketball. If I spent more time, I could come up with more examples.

Oh nick and his obsessions. I would like to think that the nba isn't rigged, but a lot of things are oddly coincidental. I really hope that it isn't but I wouldn't be surprised if it is.

ive been saying its rigged. i predict that the thunder get griffin so the oaklahoma college player can play for the oklahoma team. my only arguement was the heat. the way i saw it is the mavs started fouling when the wade took over and after that he got every call because he was so quick and the mavs reached on everything. also, why would avery be jumping up and down calling time out with no time outs left. thats not josh howards fault for following what the coach called for. if that didnt happen, the mavs would have had 3 wins and a chance to close it out. this season wade proved he doesnt need refs to be good. just by getting in the playoffs is an accomplishment for the heat, let alone being 5th.

kings lakers was obviously rigged, even lakers fans will admit they had help.

i feel like lebron and rose were rigged to get their home team. if we could only get a big name out of sac, then we would get the #1 pick. but whos come out of sac? demarcus nelson? matt barns? we wouldnt even need a draft pick if we wanted them.

NBA is rigged. the only reason i watch it is to root for the smalll teams to beat out the big name teams.

this season im going for HEAT, Rockets, Nuggets and 76ers. please take out kobe and lebron. maybe portland too, since they are really good against the lakers.

The logistics of rigging an NBA game tells me, no way, with that said, there are games here and there that just make wonder about the extent human error can go to.

That could happen logically though.

If you truly think the NBA is rigged quit watching the games.

Also explain Orlando winning the lottery twice
San Antonio winning the lottery
Portland winning the lottery
Toronto winning the lottery

I think that the only thing we have going for us is that the worst team hasn't won the lottery every fourth year. So if there has been only one team with a losing record to win the lottery in the last nine years that means statistically the team with the most ping pong balls is due!

If you look at the lottery it's not designed for the #1 team to win it at all. In fact we have a greater mathematical chance of getting the 4th pick than the 1st pick. I'm just throwing that out there. The lottery was designed to deter tanking.

^ Then quit whining about it. If you support a "rigged" product then either you don't truly think it's rigged or you just like being knee deep in it.

First of all I only believe to an extent. I think most of the regular season is probably left alone, with the exception of star treatment. Then when it gets to the end of the season or the playoffs that's when games start getting "favored" towards one team or another. Also, I think the lottery is rigged. It's not as fake as the WWE but not as real as the NCAA. I watch it for entertainment, same reason why anyone would watch a non-rigged basketball game. And since when is stating opinion whining? I think you're confusing the two.

Guess thread is a timely one....

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... or_game_4/

^However, i did route for the bulls, you dnt like to hear stuff like this after a well fought game by the bulls

But in the end result, you would think despite the claims in the article, the refs wouldnt put their integrity on the line like that and neither would the NBA so im just shocked at the alligations regardless.

It's definitely rigged to a certain extent I was explaining that to my friend that we got screwed out of the Championship in 2001 because the Lakers were the larger market team and would get more publicity for the NBA obviously. I also would not be surprised if two things happen the Knicks get the pick, because the NBA is supposedly better when the Knicks are good so I wouldn't be surprised if they some how won the lottery and the fact the draft happens in New York is also something to add to the equation. Second the notion of the Thunder getting the Number one pick isn't farfetched either because of the home player thing and the NBA wants to justify moving the team to Oklahoma City so don't be surprised if it happens. The Kings get screwed out of everything we were the worse team in the NBA that's pain enough, but watching Blake Griffin dunk all over us during a game instead of Dunking for us is going to suck and watching Rubio rip Beno Udirh in a real game is going to hurt more than him doing it in practice for us, but such is the NBA right?

If Griffin goes to Oklahoma I'm going to start thinking that it might be rigged. Rose to Chicago, James to Cleveland, and Griffin to Oklahoma is too coincidental.
