June 6th Strikeforce Event
I thought I'd make a new thread for this, because it's going to get one sooner or later, and I just heard about a big fight that's been added to the card.
Nick Diaz vs. Scott Smith at a catchweight of 180 lbs has been officially added to this card, to make it:
MAIN CARD
Robbie Lawler vs. Jake Shields
Nick Diaz vs. Scott Smith
Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante vs. Jared Hamman
Champ Alistair Overeem vs. TBA (for Strikeforce world heavyweight title)*
Phil Baroni vs. Joe Riggs
Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos vs. Joey Villasenor*
Jorge Gurgel vs. TBA*
PRELIMINARY CARD
Josh Bumgarner vs. Jesse Finney
Tyron Woodley vs. Sal Woods
Lucas Lopes vs. Scott Ventimiglia
Pat Benson vs. Dave Cochran
Booker DeRousse vs. James Wade
* - not officially announced
Cyborg and Villasenor are both confirmed to be on the card, I just think it's not been confirmed that they will be fighting each other. Decent B-level MW scrap if it goes down though.
This card would have been badass if Babalu didn't have to pull out for personal reasons. I think there are some complications with his wife's pregnancy, so I'm not bashing him, just saying, it would have been much better.
Lawler vs. Shields is pretty interesting, but I think Lawler will get the KO.
The two leading candidates to fight Overeem are Brett Rogers and Fabricio Werdum from what I've heard. Werdum would be a more worthy challenger, IMO, but I wouldn't have a big problem with Rogers in that spot.
And the reason I made this thread, Diaz vs. Smith, should be very good. I love watching both guys fight, so I just hope it isn't too short. Both guys can take quite a bit of punishment, so I don't expect to see a 1st round KO. I think I'm picking Diaz though.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
That's a stacked card. Not a TUF competitor in the bunch, either. Diaz vs Smith, Lawler vs Shields and Overeem vs either of the mentioend guys is a fantastic top.
Cyborg is a C fighter at best. Joey will mess him up. Cyborg vs Baroni is the fight to be had.
Strikeforce now has a huge amount of brawlers at 185.

Yeah, Joey probably is a level ahead of Cyborg. I think it will be a fairly entertaining fight though.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Why does Strikeforce insist of shoving Baroni down our throats. They have good fighters now, lets lose Baroni and watch one of them fight Riggs.

Arlovski is far too technical for Rogers. Should be a good slugfest though.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Arlovski is on another level compared to Rogers, but he's also got a bit of a suspect chin, and Rogers has the ability to knock him out. Good addition to the card though. Too bad it means Overeem is out.

I am not sure Arlovski has a suspect chin, but Rogers always has a punchers chance against anyone.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Nice card, Lawler is going to bust Shields up. Style wise this is real bad for Shields. Diaz and Smith at 180 is weird, all that tells me is neither of these cats is in good shape and I expect a sloppy but entertaining fight, its a toss up. Baroni/Riggs will be battle of the meatheads alot of clinching and haymakers, Riggs by TKO in the 3rd. El Hardee's lock for the night, Gurgel will be light years ahead of his opponent on the ground, but will simply engage in a backyard brawl....and lose.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Just a few hrs away.
Lawler VS Sheilds I'm not going to predict this one, think it could go either way. If standing then Lawler wins, if on the ground then Sheilds wins
Arlovski over Rodgers
Diaz over Smith
Baroni over Riggs
Randleman over Whitehead

Shields gets smoked in rd 1.
None of your posts are anything but stating the obvious, ever.
OF COURSE. God damnit.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Anyways, the top 3 fights are all really interesting here. Anyone of those 3 could equally headline --- in fact, I'm not sure why Lawler vs Shields got it. Arlovski and Diaz are the two best fighters on the card.
I also look forward to the Riggs vs Baroni fight.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
I'm not really familiar with anyone involved tonight. Can someone point me in the direction of some video or print material so I can have a more enjoyable fight viewing experience?

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Not sure if we're allowed to post links to videos on here, but if you google any of the guys, you should come up with some stuff.
Nick Diaz vs. Takanori Gomi is one of my favourite fights ever.
Watch the Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith fights and kill 2 birds with one stone.
