I hope that was Sloan's last game with us.
We all know he stupidly plays Brevin Knight over Ronnie Price. We all know he stupidly plays the likes of Jarron Collins over Fesenko and Koufos. We know his defensive philosophy causes us to get torched by scrubs from the baseline three on a nightly basis.
But this is too much. He gave up the game before the 4th quarter even started. He put in a lineup he has never used before and gave up. That lineup got us back in the game, so what does he do? Calls timeout to kill our momentum, and takes that lineup out. Since then we have scored a total of two points. Way to go, Jerry!!!!

Not to mention getting himself ejected, destroying whatever chance we might've had to win the game.

I agree. I hope this was Sloan's last game as coach. I don't get why everybody thinks he's such a "great coach." Honestly, what has this guy ever done? Won a championship? NO. The only reason he's won all those games and is going to the hall of fame is because Jazz management don't have the guts to fire him. A donkey could have coached the teams during the Stockton and Malone era and today's era with Williams and Boozer and we wouldn't have noticed a difference. I give him credit the year after Stockton and Malone. However, I'm not interested in Sloan turning bad teams into average teams. I'm interested in a coach that can turn a good team into a great team. Sloan has proven over his coaching tenure that he can't do that.

I am sorry...but you guys are idiots. Sloan gone? Are you serious? How many coaches in this league have as much success as he does? What are you criticizing him for? Playing a veteran backup point guard? How many of you were screaming for a vet PG before the season started? Honestly any talk about Sloan getting the boot is just stupid. He has his faults just like every other coach in this league so get over it.
Jerry Sloan >>>>>>>> Everything else.

I want him back even more. What he did during the 4th quarter by keeping half injured Okur and Price in there was of genius. He could seriously just put Fesenko or Collins in a throw the towel, but he didn't.
Coach Sloan, you are welcome back in my books.
KOC, you better not be planning on taking a vacation this summer. I am expecting to shed 5 players of this roster and build around Williams primarily, and Millsap and Okur secondarily.
I don't blame this on Sloan at all.

Re: I hope that was Sloan's last game with us.
To blame losing this series on Sloan would be absolutely absurd and the fact that he got ejected in its closing phases as the refs (and missed layups) systematically destroyed what little chance we had of winning the game actually does nothing but increase my respect for the guy. However, I do have one major gripe with him. That Ronnie Price should have been getting the minutes backing up Deron rather than Brevin Knight has been blatantly obvious not only throughout this series, but over the last few months. How can you say that inserting and then keeping Price in the game was "genius" without admitting that not making him the backup much earlier in the season was an egregious mistake? Knight's utter inability to create, place any kind of pressure on opposing defenses or even give the team a spark has been a huge problem. Price may not be a pure point guard, but he's a great athlete, a much better offensive player than Knight and a real sparkplug on both ends of the floor.
Beyond that, you have to give Sloan some credit for keeping the team afloat in the wake of so many injuries and trying some different things in this series. Still, with something of a rebuilding process on the horizon, I really would rather see him leave so that we can go in a new direction with a new philosophy.

I don't know if you noticed, but Sloan didn't play Williams in the 4th quarter until we got back in the game. He didn't have Okur and Price out there because he's a genius; he did it because he figured the game was over. Come on...

Starters = -20 deficit
Energy Scrubs = +14 run
I think he figured out a combination that worked, and kept it running. I don't think he should have played Williams even at the end. We probably could have gone all the way to tying that game.

Good Lord, the Sloan lovefest continues.......
"He kept the team afloat", yeah he really did a great job at the end of the year when the Jazz were fighting for playoff position........ All those injuries during that time really hampered him.......
Good God this team has become so stale it's not even funny, and it's fans are not much better......
Doesn't matter who the Jazz get in the off-season, if Sloan is still here this team isn't going to amount to anything........

Looking at his eyes it seems like he has some kind of pain inside. I think he is done with this team. Just don't want to see it no more...

I can't see Sloan walking away after the way this team ended the year. Thats not the way to go out. That being said, I do place last night's loss squarely on his shoulders. The game was lost in the second quarter when he put in that rediculous no offense lineup and left them in while the Lakers built a double digit lead. By the time he got Deron and AK back into the game it was, for all intents and purposes, over.

Exactly. Sloan screwed up in the 2nd quarter. I don't blame him for putting Deron in the game at the end though. If he didn't, we probably still would have lost and everyone would be saying Sloan was an idiot for not putting Deron back in. He should have put AK back in IMO though. He was playing Kobe really well and we all knew who would be shooting the ball at the end of the game for the Lakers.
Sloan is a good coach, but this team has gone downhill in the last few years. A change in the coaching staff might be exactly what we need.

Edit: Do you guys don't even have a Hot Rod Appreciation thread do you? If not, why not?
Yeah, Duiz is right, It was mentioned several times last night on the general board and Lakers fans were even agreeing with it.
Who are you going to replace Sloan with if you fire him? There is no candidate with a resume as good as his is. Who do you hire once you fire Sloan is the question I ask in every one of these threads I catch, and I never get a response, so who would you hire to be his replacement?

Sloan will not be fired. The question really is if he will want to return. If he doesn't, then the Jazz will promote one of their assistants to the HC job: Ty Corbin (probable), Phil Johnson (getting too old), or Jeff Hornacek (long shot).

You guys better hope you promote from within, because their are only, like, 4 coaches that actually run motion based halfcourt sets and you have one of them. The others are Phil Jack (9 rings), Gregg Pop (4 rings), Rick Adelman (success with every team he's had), and then your Jerry Sloan (multiple finals appearances and amazing playoff success). The only teams that get away with not having it are Cleveland (Lebron is his own offense) and Boston (sick, sick defense).
I'm just saying, I'm watching my rockets play the trailblazers and they have sick talent, but they run the same stuff every time. Roy clearout and aldridge pick and roll. Kinda like what the rockets did against you guys with yao and t-slack until adelman came in....and it didn't work.
Not many coaches are good at utilizing all the players on the floor and maximizing their talent. Sloan is one of them, so be careful what you wish for.

The Jazz would definitely go with either Corbin or Horny.
I'd trust both of them with the team. Honestly it really doesn't matter what the Jazz do with the coach this off season.

Considering how well the Mavs have been playing lately my guess is he will be the Coach in Dallas for quite a while.
