Bynum Question

Post#1 » by Clangus » Tue Apr 28, 2009 4:45 am

Ok guys please keep the abuse to a minamin.

I have watched quite a few laker games this year and last and I am not 100% convinced they they are that much better with Bynum.

I know that he is going to take some time to get back into the flow, but I think it is more important for the Lakers to play at thier best is the performance of Lamar Odom.

If lamar is motivated and playing with agression and confidence the Lakers are unstopable!!

It must be a real frustration and at the same time be a real tease when Odom plays great for 5-6 games at a time and then disapears for a few.

I guess the underlying question is:

Is Lamar Odom more important to the Lakers than Andrew Bynum?

Well, when Bynum was a beast in the paint, he was blocking shots, getting all the rebounds, alley-oops... if you're not convince that Bynum is important to the Lakers this year, watch the Boston-Lakers Finals from last year.

I saw that, and I think ODom being a soft ass was a bigger difference. Odom got tough this year (Garnett ass slap) and POW Lakers sweep teh season series.

I liked Odom's KG-esque yell on the AND-1 tonight.

You might be right my friend. Odom coming up big tonight and Bynum wasn't a factor.

Odom getting a 24/12 will always be better than what Bynum. I will take any player over Bynum as long as he gets 24/12.

Celtics is not a problem anymore. I think we can handle the Cavs without Bynum. Andrew is just there for insurance.

odom was ALWAYS more valuable than byunum imho.

it was always over-crazed fans of the lakers that hyped up bynum too much. dont get me wrong, he has potential because no scrub can put up 42 points in a game, block 6 shots in a game, grab 18 boards in a game, etc etc...but to be considered a 2nd option on a stacked lakers squad is complete disrespect to gasol and odom.

nah, beasting bynum = instant win

lamar as good as he is, isnt half the defensive force bynum can be, which also happens to be LA's weak spot

a lot of the time, lamar's best defense against dribble penetration is to stick his arms straight up in the air and close his eyes

now if pau gasol was say, tim duncan, then lamar's offense trumps whatever bynum brings

I think when our opponents play big, Bynum will be a big factor for us. Lo has been playing awesome for us as well which is probably the reason why Bynum is playing less minutes.

Last season LO was in and out.. but thus far he's been on fire and playing very aggressive for us.
Like what Phil said.. most likely bynum will start in the 2nd round because of the likes of Yao...etc..

Will he really?

Yeah I think Bynum will shine next season. He is going to go through this slump the entire playoffs.

If Bynum can't play at least 20-25 good minutes playing guarding the paint and get at least 10 and 8 with almost 2 blocks they will not beat the Cavs.
They need Odom and Bynum to beat the Cavs. It's not 1 or another. It has to be both.
The Cavs weakness is there inside and we need to expose that to the max.
We need Bynum to beat the Rockets who will be our hardest team to get to the finals. Yes harder then Denver by alot.

Regardless of how well Odom is playing, we are so much better defensively when Drew is playing well. IMO if he stays on the floor for 25+ minutes and near the vicinity of 10/10/2, we are solid. He makes it so much harder for teams to score on us and takes pressure off some of our other guys on the defensive end.

You guys aint gotta diss me because I root for the Bobcats to. It's not like there is a real rivalry vs Lakers. Lakers are still my favorite team. Kobe is still my favorite player. Gasol is still my 2nd favorite player. I have a Lakers tat. Dont be like that.

Star24 huh. Good memory.

I think Denver will be easier then the Rockets. The Rockets scare me.

Plus I was living in Iowa before I moved to Raleigh which meant no going to games for 5 years for me. Now I have a home team. What is wrong with rooting for my favorite team plus the hometeam?

You guys can't really hold that against me and for those who are please don't. Why tell me to go away?
Besides there was absolutely nothing to talk about in the regular season, the Lakers destroyed the competition. This year it was all about waiting for the playoffs to begin and now they have.
I have started to like Shannon Brown. He is not a pg at all and would suck on another team but he is perfect for us. He can guard the big 2's and hit the open shots and really fit in with the fastbreak team. He's perfect.

Is my right hand more important than my left thumb? (I know, I know, terrible analogy) but I guess what I'm trying to get to is that these guys are equally important to the team. The Zen Master constantly adjusts his lineup dynamically in response to who we play.. meaning, just because Andrew gets benched, it doesn't mean that he is less important to the team. There will be matchups when he'll be needed.
