How do crackheads end up with game 7 playoff tickets?

Post#1 » by Wes_Tiny_Abe_ » Tue Apr 28, 2009 2:18 pm

There have not been very many game 7s in Washington DC in recent memory.

However the few times I have been lucky enough to attend game 7s in other cities (mostly basketball games) there have always been crackheads outside of the arena/ballpark willing to part with their tickets for the right price.

They always have good seats too, not upper level garbage seats.

While I do not plan on being anywhere near the Verizon Center tonight, I am sure there will be plenty of crackheads on F street getting their hustle on.

So how do crackheads end up with highly sought after game 7 playoff tickets?

I certainly wouldn't characterize the guys on F Street as "crackheads." For the most part the ones I've talked to have been savvy guys who do the ticket thing for a living and know what they're doing. They probably have a variety of supply contacts for the big games.

I've purchased tickets outside MCI/Verizon many times in the past from the guys selling out front or coming out of the Metro, and I definitely wouldn't call these guys "crackheads". My experience with a true "crackhead" tells me they couldn't get by more than a handful of time with a pocket full of cash.

Crackheads? Not hardly...more like savvy businesspeople. It's been my experience over the years that it's usually the same men (and sometimes women) scalping tickets outside Verizon Center...whether it's the 7th game, a NCAA Regional Final or a midseason Wizards game against the Grizzlies.

You were kidding when you labeled those folks "crackheads," right?

A better question would be how does a nutjob manage to manage to create an absolutely ridiculous thread not have it locked by one of our mods?

No.

My description of my experiences (mostly in Los Angeles and New York City) is spot on accurate.

Crackheads is pretty much what I encountered.

In almost every case they all had great seats.

I guess game 7s bring out the entrepreneurial spirit in just about everyone.

In all fairness I do not think I have ever attended a game 7 here in Washington DC before, but I have seen some questionable looking people trying to sell tickets outside of the Verizon Center.

There is a huge difference between a regular season game and a game 7 of a playoff series.

One should expect a wide array of characters on F street tonight trying to sell tickets.

If one can make a hefty profit from scalping a ticket, well then by all means I think they should go for it.

After all this is a free country.

Nutjob?

No. I think you have me confused with somebody else.

I am not the one who changed our team's name from the BULLETS to the WIZARDS.

Am I still bitter after all of these years?

YES I am.

Can we keep this in the random thoughts thread? It's not really thread-worthy. Thanks.
