Who are the low price free agents out there?

Post#1 » by DelaneyRudd » Tue Apr 28, 2009 9:43 pm

We had the discussion about Gorat which is an idea, Who else out there is cheap and can play quality minutes?

Do the Jazz try and build a team like the Lakers or Cavs where you have 3 really good players who make the scrubs play better or do we build a team like Detroit a few years ago where everyone's good, no one is epically great?

Aaron Gray could be a good pick up for a team looking for height at center. He has turned into a nice backup for Chicago. Zaza Pachulia could be had cheaply to be a backup at power forward. Chris Anderson, or course, is a guy a lot of teams will go after, but I would love him on the Jazz. Rasho Nesterovic could also be picked up cheap. I think if I made a list of the best free agents from the Jazz stand point it would look something like this:

Center:
Chris Anderson
Aaron Gray
Robert Swift
Rasho Nesterovic

Power forward:
Millsap and Boozer at the top of this, but if we lose one of them
Anderson Varejo
Leon Powe
Brandon Bass
Drew Gooden
Glen Davis
Brian Skinner

Shooting guard/small forward:
I hate Miles and want him gone, any of these guys are better
Ben Gordon
Josh Childress
Shawn Marion
Von Wafer
Matt Barnes
I also like Steve Novak as a bench player to hit threes (better version of Kapono)

Point guard:
Ronnie Price
Chris Quinn
Shannon Brown
Jacque Vaughn
Bobby Brown

Guys I would be interested in if I were the Jazz.

Shannon Brown, Ben Gordon, Brandon Bass, James Singleton, Von Wafer, Trevor Ariza, Lamar Odom, Jason Collins, Rodney Carney, Chris Wilcox, Channing Frye, Shelden Williams, Ime Udoka, Anthony Parker.

Ideally, the Jazz would sign one big name player i.e. Ben Gordon or Lamar Odom and get one of the other players. But that likely won't happen.

The Jazz have so much on their own plate however to deal with who knows what will happen.

The Jazz have become so soft. I wonder what Araujo is doing these days. He may be a better option than the creampuffs the Jazz have up front.

Rashad McCants anyone? Watching him on Sacramento, he looked a lot better on defense and shot a higher % in an organized offense. Wouldn't mind a spark like him off the bench if we could get him.

Mikki Moore should be somewhat cheap if we could get him since he has been a disappointment in Boston

There are some possible undrafted guys that I could see becoming great hardnose role players with work, maybe camp invites to a Jon Brockman and Cedric Jackson (PG, Cleveland State)

I don't see those guys working in the Jazz system. I'm not sure I'd like to bring in Wilcox, Frye or Williams. I wonder if the Lakers will have the money to re-sign both Odom and Ariza. My guess is they won't. Parker would also be a nice addition, but he's getting pretty old. I'm not sure how effective he still is.

Eddie House, Trevor Ariza, and Ime Udoka would all be ridiculously good upgrades over CJ Miles.

I think Wilcox would be a perfect power forward to sign if we lose one of ours. I like the way he can finish around the rim and when given minutes he rebounds pretty good. Has he ever had a point like Williams to feed him the ball?
I also like McCants. I like his tuffness.

I rather have Candace Parker than Shelden Williams.

Wilcox would be an ok backup to Millsap.

McCants is a no no if Sloan is the coach.

Being as everyone is dumping on CJ. I will say that he is 21, and this was his first full season of NBA basketball. Give him a break. He produced in ppg as much as AK did as a starter last year. He just needs to learn to do more on the boards and improve his shooting.

We need a big in the mold of Turiaf or Josh Powell to replace Collins and I would love to spend the MLE on Ariza.

I think re-loading the bench through FA is key. Then maybe look at other pieces via trade.

Defense is where CJ bothers me. He seems to lose his guy out there all the time.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

If booz walks, we need to get Power or Bass, i think either of those two combo'd with Millsap would bring a definite upgrade in the hustle department.

Jazz are broke!!! Toyota sales are slow!!! Arena not selling out anymore. Jazz will be cost cut mode. Boozer opts out (which he wont) then Jazz use some of his money on Millsap and thats it. Same team as last year except either Boozer or Millsap are gone and maybe Korver opts out.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

The LHM Group doesn't make all of its money from car sales. All markets are down right now and the Jazz are a money maker. You don't dump the guys hoping to save money and then not have the fans come to the stadium.

I like Bass and he would be a great fit here. I could let Booze walk if I knew I could sign Bass.

I see Ben Gordon listed there but he is hardly low price. He turned down a 5 year $60 million deal from the Bulls.

I wouldn't mind not signing MIllsap or Boozer and just sign Odom. It would make things interesting. Odom has size, post play, range, and can rebound the ball and play excellent defense.

I'd love Millsap and Bass at the PF.

I don't think that Chris Andersen is really going to come very cheap, at least not as cheap as Denver got him. There will probably always be that lingering concern of drugs over him but there will be a team or two willing to risk it. He doesn't fit the Utah persona.

I do like him though.

Return to Utah Jazz
