Wow, slow week in Comm thread eh?

Well here's a little something to cheer you up!

I was late to work and grabbed the pair of jeans that my girlfriend didn't protect from a....uhhhh.... milkshake explosion from a nearby volcano. I told her that thing was going to go off, but no, she was busy watching it until she was almost blinded.

So today I get to go through work with jeans that look like I'm some banana slug farmer from Santa Cruz.

Cleeeeeveland...... Steamers!

better than "we want tacos"

Hey Danny, forgot to tell you good luck with a great opportunity. Just don't forget about us when you become rich, happy, and famous. :)

I hope I have a relaxing weekend. I need one after the one I had last week. Friends are going through some marital problems; I consider them family and its hard to be around that stuff especially since they have a 14 month old.

Hopefully the Lakers can get you a W tomorrow then. Going through what I've been through with my ex-girl and moving out on Sunday, sometimes the Lakers are the best cure.

Good luck, DD. Wash your shirt! :)

Thanks Sofa.

I think it's my year.(again) I was asked to do a last minute charity event for the Ventura Art Walk two days ago. On almost no notice 5 of the best bands around played for me. and oh yeah the finishing band was the rhythm section for Social Distortion and they asked if they could be my rhythm section on the album. I said of course. Really cool guys. Brought a giant crowd and kicked ass. I had to learn how to engineer really loud music on the fly, but zero woofs or feedback squelches so it worked out really well.

My dream is to have this album as well liked by the world and the musicians who have supported me on it and then make the kind of career that would lead me to buy us some box seats for get togethers

Great F'n night.

Let me know if I can help you with something, give it an extra push.

apparently all the students in the nursing program here were exposed to scabies, because they were told not to come to the campus at all yesterday

and that is one reason why you won't be seeing me in any medical profession

Don't know Sjoert.
We were playing with Toby Emery, Pete Finestone, Big Dick Chevy, and Ben Dayo

How are you at mastering? I'd still love to do a song with you sometime, too. I've heard the quality on the last song you sent and I'd love to do a non album single with you some time. Maybe just me and a guitar and let you build an arrangement?

I master all of my own tracks before delivery. I don't consider myself a mastering engineer, but I get fairly good results. How many tracks are you doing?

Would be fun to write a song together. Let's see, what should it be about:

1) Women
2) Lakers
3) Drinking
4) Ghosts
5) All of the above?

Gotta make it happen.

hahah classic. Yes there should be a lakers board song. I'm surprised Doc didn't already do one.
I think a hangover song would be cool.

the album would be 6 songs.

Ok, so now I have a serious quandary:

When the album was just one song a producer asked me to make it a concept album so he could do the album with me. I wrote the album and paid up front at a bargain for the whole studio and engineering. Here we are months later and he's taking forever.

In the meantime another producer ( probably one of the best around here JP from Castaway Studios) wants to do the album for free as I mentioned. He probably makes slightly better tracks and he thinks he can get me a pro album that will take off.

So do I hang in there on the first guy who is a close friend and got me to write the album. Or do I start right away with the 2nd producer and figure out how to recoup my money and smooth things over with the 1st guy?

Next time, pay half up front and the other half first after final and approved (by you) delivery.

Key question: same songs with the two different producers? Did your friend already contribute with solid changes on these songs? Offer him co-writer, co-producer or co-arranger credit, or what ever is appropriate for each song, and explain that you have to exhaust this option. If you should go ahead without him, to produce the same songs with someone else, be very careful not to use any of his ideas (if there are any that you'd like to keep). I'd probably let the new guy come up with something else, and give him the exact same demos that you delivered to guy one, to make it fair. If your buddy made a substantial contribution on a song and you still miss it at the end of it all with the new guy, incorporate it and give him the appropriate credit.

If you're working on different songs altogether with guy number two, then it's a different ball game. Tell guy number one that you want to work with him again as soon as he's finished with what isn't completed, and in the mean time, you have to go make another record with someone else. If he's a good friend, he should understand that you have to bust a move while he's smoking herb and not holding up his end on your "old" project. He knows he hasn't delivered.

I'm guessing the same-songs-scenario is what's going on, right?

EDIT: Read your post again. Was the album his idea, you say? Did he come up with the concept? Did he write anything?

You know when you have one of those days where you think life just sucks... check out this site. Makes you feel better even if its just a little. :)

Some highlights.

Today, my boss called me into his office to show me the web site of a potential business partner. When he began to type 'virginia' into google, it auto-completed his search with his recent search for 'virgin boy ****'. I have to go on business trip with him tomorrow. I'm a young guy. FML

Today, my husband dropped me off at work, ten minutes later I got a text saying" I just dropped the b*tch off I'll be there in a few baby, miss you". I asked him about it he said he "I dont know what youre talking about Megan". My name isnt Megan, not even close. FML

Today, my mom : "You and your dad like all the same foods right? Try this for me", she then proceeds to give me a strawberry flavored jelly. I say that it tastes good and ask what she gave me. "It's my new nipple cream, I want to surprise your dad tonight." FML

:)

Woops, forgot the link. http://www.fmylife.com
