Iglesias with the non-80's number 17. I like it.
I have a problem with D.J. Moore taking number 30 from Mike Brown.

I have a problem with Freeman taking #58 from Wilbur Marshall.

Turn down for what?

The Bears have had so many great players over the years that its hard for a rookie to avoid a number associated with a past legend (unless you are talking about QB's and WR's)

The league needs to start allowing numbers into the 100's.
Due to our greatness and all.

My all time favorite Bears defender. The man was amazing. In high school I had a friend (6'5" 200lbs) who told a group of us that he thought he could take a hit from Wilbur Marshall without pads. We argued this forever. One day after Bears practice we caught up to Marshall and asked him if he thought our friend (without pads) could take a hit from him (in pads) if he had 20 yards to build up speed. He responds after looking our friend up & down.....
"Man....I would kill you".

No 85 on the roster. That saddens me. Earl Bennet switched to 80.

Re: Bears 2009 NFL Draft Thread
Why did Iglesias get 17, but Knox was 17 in college but he got 13?
Same with the Raiders, and DHB getting 12 but Louis Murphy got 18 which was DHB's college number?

Personally I love the draft. I cannot wait to see if we can actually pressure the quarterback this year.

Re: Bears 2009 NFL Draft Thread
I think our Defense is the biggest sleeper this season (not that it dropped off the map completely last season). Peter King (who I usually completely discount) did bring up that last year we were the third best in defending the run per run play and seventh best against the pass per pass play. If that's the case, the best way to improve overall isn't on a per play basis, its reducing the AMOUNT of defensive plays. That's where Jay Cutler and a better OL can impact the defense more than any defensive personnel addition could. If we start sustaining drives... something we weren't really good at last year... the defense will look a TON better just by default. We'll also win the field position game.
Also... I do believe the structural change in coaching on defense should pay dividends. Having the best DL coach in the game taking over the DL and Lovie calling the plays should be another improvement. I cannot wait for this season to start!

Every draft pick is signed but Jarron Gilbert and Juaquin Iglesias.
