Chris Anderson is a player I’ve always been interested in. Nabbing him in free agency would allow us some flexibility in perhaps packaging one of our other bigs in a trade (that could perhaps bring another star to the team).
Do you guys think that we are in a position to sign him at the full MLE or perhaps even more if we sign him before some of our own free agents? Is this wise?
Looking at his production:
He plays 20 minutes a game. Let’s adjust those regular season numbers to starter minutes to see what he can do. (I’m not saying he has to start, but if we traded a starting big to bring in a star at SF, SG, or PG, I think Anderson could start). Assuming 35 minutes is starter minutes, that is 175% increase in minutes and thus stats. We could expect the following:
Rebounds: 10.85 (10 when we control for fatigue and perhaps a couple of less minutes per game)
Blocks: 4.4 (Rounded down to 4 in similar fashion)
Points: 11.55 (Rounded way down to 9 just to be conservative).
10 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 9 points a game, plus the freedom to package a big with another player to bring in a star to compliment Joe if possible: Where do I sign?

^^^By the way, I'm hoping that the Hawks will be competitive in the sense that we will be one of the higher seeded playoff teams in the league that can offer him more playing time, if we were to promise to move another big to bring in a star.

I think that he woudl be a great fit for the Hawks but I really doubt that he leaves Denver. He has a support structure there and the last time he left it was a disaster.

I was thinking the same thing. However if someone (we aren't in a position to do it) really overwhelmed him with an offer he might be tempted away, but that might end in disaster like last time.

I appreciate the feedback kb and dallas. I always enjoy your posts. Out of curiousity, what is essential to a support staff that Andersen can thrive in? Scoring: (Chauncy, J.R., Melo), bulk (K-Mart, Nene), etc.? Just wondering what you guys had on your minds.

Off the court support structure. In the beginning of this article you can get a piece of it. I really can't see him going anywhere else when things are finally going good for him again.

By support structure, I took it as off-court and behind the scenes. Denver as an organization was where he started his career and probably made some strong ties there. He left for a big raise to New Orleans. That when he went off the rails and served his suspension while with the Hornets. As a free agent with a lot of doubts about him last summer, Denver was a team willing to give him a year deal and welcome him back home. He's captured the hearts and imaginations of their fan base. I'm not saying that another fan base wouldn't warm to him, but when he has been in a Nuggets uniform he hasn't run afoul of the league drug testing.
As a player his defense and energy off the bench would definitely fit for our team. Anyone would want those blocked shots off the bench. Never meant to imply that his fit in Denver's lineup was unique in that respect.

^^^Gotcha. I really appreciate that incite guys. I recall the suspension (I want to say it was 2 years for marijuana?), but I didn't realize that his ties to Denver were that critical to his keeping himself straight.
