All the people that want josh smith traded

Post#1 » by ATL1en » Fri May 1, 2009 5:15 pm

for the likes of kaman in others
our defense would be total crap
do you guys not remember when smith was out 12 or so games
how did we play
how did horford play at the 4
oh yeah he had the same numbers
so all this horford at the 4 crap is borderline (Please Use More Appropriate Word) he's the same at the 4 then at the 5

Thank you, I've been reading these forums for a while and have finally decided to start posting and all the smith hate is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Ppl claim to hate his 3 point shooting but he took 1.1 a game, thats not gonna kill you and in the second half he shot 40 percent from 3. I know some of his shots are questionable but that's what happens, if hawks wouldve hired a better coach from the start to mentor these young ones instead of hiring the worst coach in the nba we wouldnt be in this situation

True, but i bet you if you look back at all the threads there are more threads bashing him then liking him and he doesnt deserve all of it, ppl want chris kaman, he is an injury prone big man
ppl want shaq, he has a year or 2 at most and our future would be gone
truth be told there isnt a better option unless bosh falls to our lap and i doubt that

I haven't seen anyone even mention Kaman or Shaq lately. I would trade Smith in a deal for Bosh but that's about it. Smith drives me nuts and i feel like bitchslapping him several times a game but i don't want to get rid of him.

^ i wouldn't upset if their was a Bosh trade, but i wouldn't do it either. Bosh has a great offence, but one of the greatest secrets in the NBA is Bosh's defence, not that many people know how awful it is(TOR fans know). it might be a case where Bosh gives the Hawks 10 more points a game, but also gives up 10 points a game.

Why do people keep saying that Al Horford struggled when Smith was injured? The Hawks played .500 ball during that stretch, despite the fact that the majority of those games were on the road.

Horford's per36 stats during that stretch: 12.5 pts, 9.1 rebs, 2.7 asts, 2.2 blks 50.0% eFG, 3.2 FTM

Smith's per36 stats for the season: 16.0 pts, 7.4 rebs, 2.5 asts, 1.7 blks, 50.8% eFG, 3.1 FTM

^^^He scored less than Smith does normally, but he took three less shots in doing so while also being the superior rebounder. Everything else is a wash.

People oversell Smith because he's flashy, and undersell Marvin and Horford because they aren't.

People said same thing about Gasol and Lakers D has been fine. Raptors defense was actually significantly better than the Hawks in both 2007 and 2008. Bosh is not a plus defender but it's not like he's a completely liability...you just can't put him next to a guy like Bargnani who averages 5 rebounds a game.

I dont undervalue any hawk i love marvin and horfords game, i want too personally keep the 4 of jj marvin horford and smoove and look for a better suited pg for our system, one that actually is a pg since bibby has become just more of a shooter with bad defense now

I'd do Smith -for- Bosh or Smith -for- Amare, but I'd have to think about it for just about anyone else on the block who's not a true center.

^^^^ Hawks' opponents' shooting percentage was .468fg when Smoove was out. Hawks opp shooting % when Smoove is in, is .454fg........ that is pretty significant.

The point is that Horford played the same when Smith was out. He didn't blow up at the 4 like so many people claim he would. His lack of scoring has nothing to do with his position.

The only thing moving to the 4 would help is his defense because he wouldn't be overmatched as often physically.

I think if the Hawks were willing to trade Horford they would get much more talent back than if they traded Smith. Do you disagree with that mrhonline?

Given that he has two years left on his rookie deal that helps his trade value as well.

But that's also a red herring. If the Hawks traded Smith, they wouldn't do it so that they can have the defensive juggernauts that are Solomon Jones and Zaza Pachulia to play next to him.

If Smith had to play without Horford for a long stretch of time, you'd notice a drop in the team's interior presence as well.

No, I don't think that is the point. I don't know many who believed that Horford himself would "blow up at the 4." Frankly, I'm not so concerned about how Horford himself would perform, but how the team would perform.

The point is that the Hawks could win if Horford was at the 4.
