Love on Jim Rome right now (Full interview video inside)

Post#1 » by theGreatRC » Thu Apr 30, 2009 8:47 pm

Talking about the rook/soph snub, how he excels in the NBA, if he wants Mchale back as coach.

Fun fact: Kevin Love was the only high school player on Jim Rome radio, according to Mr. Rome himself.

He basically said the following:

(Rook/soph snub..ROY...rookie team): He basically said that he talked to his dad and his dad told him to just keep his mouth shut, but if Love could say what he wanted to say, we would know what he would probably say about the situation..

(How he excels in the NBA): He said that he models his game after players his size like David West and Carlos Boozer, and is going to add a left jump hook and shots off the dribble. He also said it's guess and check when defending players like a KG or a Duncan and he also said Al Jefferson is the best young low post player in the game and he is good at defense.

If he wants Mchale back as coach: Love said he is hoping that Mchale is back as coach and the consensus of the team is that they all want him back, but Love said the Wolves org. is going to hire a GM first before they decide on who the coach will be.

Edit:

He also said he had an epiphany on December 26th when the Wolves played New York. He said he only got about 6 or 7 minutes and he said he was tired of it, so he started getting in the gym early in the morning to work on his game, and that is when he started to take his game to the next level.

It was a really intelligent interview, but those are the parts I remember. Love really does have a high BBIQ

I saw it and he kept bringing up players with hidden agendas... He wouldn't call anyone out on the Wolves, but it really felt like he meant there was at least one of those players on our team.... I suppose he could have meant Shad before he got traded. What do you think?

He did make it clear that he agreed with Rose as ROY.

Lately, Love has been spouting off at the lip whenever he gets the chance.

Dude needs to humble himself for a bit and think about all those times he got rejected. He has a long ways to go, and stroking your own ego is not going to help you get better.

I have noticed that Love does seem to a bit full of himself. Around December of last year I was talking with a gopher player who met Kevin Love. I guess Love came to their locker room because he was friends with someone on the team. Well the player said love was kind of a jackass in the way he seemed so full of himself. I think he rubbed some people the wrong way. I don't know how bad it is but at the same time, you almost have to have a ego like that to be great. Hopefully it will serve to help him get better, if he is that egotistical all of these snubs have to be killing him. This could humble and make him a better player at the same time.

Love's first words:

"Good to be back here in this California weather."

I turned off the interview and lost all respect of Kevin Love there. Another player bashing the weather. Trade him.

Bah, screw that. If I was in the NBA as a 19 year old, I'd be running around Sam Cassell style.

I can handle the weather here, but if I had my druthers, I'd definitely prefer 80 and sunny. I like rainy as a change of pace, but I never miss frigid ridiculous cold.

LOL! If there was ever a guy I didn't want to be ...!

So what do you make of the "hidden agenda" stuff? "The NBA is a business, and player's want to get their shot attempts because they want to feed their family?" .. or something like that? He back-pedaled really fast, and tried to say it was more rampant around the league, but I raised an eyebrow .. who could he be talking about on the Wolves? McCants seems like an obvious pick, but anyone else? Foye? Jefferson?

I was impressed with his loyalty to Al Jefferson and especially McHale.

There are really only three people I could think he might be talking about Gomes, Foye, and Bassy. No one else shoots enough. Mike Miller can't feed his family on only 7 shots a game. Maybe Smith???? I don't think there's ne way that it could be Jefferson with the way Love was talking about him. He basically said he was better than Dwight Howard.

Yea, Love went into full reverse on the hidden agenda thing, he suddenly realized that people would be watching this and he tried to bust out the Mr. Love glass cleaner but it was too late, everybody already saw the smudge he left.

I have to guess that it was either McCants, Bassy, Foye, possible Gomes cause of the family thing, maybe Wittman. Maybe possibly Jason Collins because he kept getting starts even though he sucked but I don't see how that's his fault.

Foye and Telfair took a lot of shots, I don't know if it was Foye though because McHale kept giving him the green light. IF coach tells you to keep shooting you should probably listen and keep shooting. Somebody's probably pissed at him now. I suppose I would have to guess that it is a player who us off the team or soon to be off the team because I doubt Love would say something like that about a player he will likely be playing with next season.

Yeah, he tried to backtrack that deal REAL quick LOL. When he talks about feeding the family though, the only guy I can think of who didn't actually already have a contract is Rashad McCants. All the other guys mentioned besides maybe Foye already have deals in place that were just signed recently. But I don't know, as long as he pulls down those double doubles going forward, I don't really care lol.

Does McCants have a family? Like kids? I don't think he does. I know Foye has a daughter or something. Gomes is certainly a family man. Bassy, yea he has a family to take care of too.

He could be referring to Carney since he is in a contract year. I loved Carney's play but I do recall him taking ill-advised threes here and there.

Also when he is talking about feeding families I would not actually be thinking of just players that have families. love most likely meant that loosely as someone that feels the need to recieve a larger contract. I mean if a person can not feed their family on a base contract of 500k or more a year, they are pathetic, i.e. Latrell Sprewell.

Alright, let's cross out the unlikely suspects.

It can't be Al Jefferson, that is like Love's idol right now.
It can't be Mike Miller, sure he has a family and i'm sure he has kids, but he barely shot the ball.
It can't be Mark Madsen, he doesn't even play
It can't be Brewer, he is young and plus he was injured.
It can't be Collins, he barely shot the ball and he was just a defensive guy.
It can't be Brown, he is new to the team and played spot minutes
It can't be Big Shelden, he also only played spot minutes and took minimal shots.
It can't be Ollie, you can't disrespect your elders like that

That leaves:

McCants
Foye
Smith
Cardinal
Carney
Bassy
Smith
Gomes

-----

Now we see the minutes and shots ratio of each player:

Cardinal: 14.2 mpg / 2.6 FGA
Carney: 17.9 mpg / 6.3 FGA
Foye: 35.6 mpg / 14.0 FGA
Gomes: 31.9 mpg / 11.9 FGA
Bassy: 27.9 mpg / 9.3 FGA
Smith: 19.7 mpg / 6.9 FGA
McCants: 18.6 mpg / 8.6 FGA

Throw in Love's mpg/fga : 25.3 mpg / 8.5 FGA

That's all the info I have, gonna go pay attention to my professor now before I get an F.
