Apparently Pittsburgh is releasing him and he wants to play for us....

Yeah lets sign foote, once he gets released. Other defensive players that that could be worth signing could be brian young just released by the saints, shelden brown cornerback who wants out , or levi johns LT who might get released.

There were reports during the week preceding the Super Bowl that Foote wanted to play for his hometown Detroit Lions if he were released and, according to the Post-Gazette, he told both Detroit newspapers as much on Tuesday.

"Ain't no doubt about that," Foote told the Detroit Free Press. "I would love to come home. My family is here. I just bought a house here. It would be great. And just to answer critics: I'm not a veteran trying to come home and cash out on my hometown team. I'm a baller first. I wouldn't sacrifice that for nothing."

According to the same ESPN article, Pittsburgh won't release him until after their mini camp.

I'd still sign him. He wants to play for the Lions and the Lions could use him.

The Steelers did cut him (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/trans;_ylt= ... gBcQJDubYF ) , and the Lions would be stupid not to use him. The team went 0-16. Anyone with any talent wants to play with the Lions at all, you can't afford to say no. Hell, Brett Favre got cut by the Jets...pick him up on the outside chance ( ) that he wants to play again.

In a strange and puzzling twist, however, team sources said that Foote will not be released until after the club's upcoming minicamp, a stance first reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Tuesday afternoon and subsequently confirmed by ESPN.com.

Yet Foote continues to believe he has been released already and is now a free agent. It is not certain, sources close to Foote said, if the linebacker will attend the minicamp, should the Steelers not officially release him until next week.

A player is not technically released until his name appears on the league's internal transactions report, which is issued daily.

Nothing on the Steelers official site and the official site of the NFL has Larry Foote reported as off the Steelers roster or cut from the team.

If Foote happens to come to Detroit, I'm happy to say that they will have a pretty vicious front 7. The D-Line got upgraded with the draft and Free Agency and having Simms, Foote, Peterson is going to make team scared to run. I'm getting kind of excited to see what can happen with this rebuilding. I'm very impressed with what Detroit is doing.

I think Icness said it but don't quote me... Detroit didn't hit homeruns or strike out during the draft, but they did get alot of doubles. And that's what this team needs right now. We needed to hit on everything even if it wasn't the one major out of the ballpark move. This team had too many holes to go for broke. But they made alot of very good choices.

We got the best QB, TE and S in the draft. We also got some guys in later rounds who "fell" to us. Follett and Lydon come to mind.

Mayhew has also made alot of moves in free agency and doesn't appear to be done. Don't forget trading Redding and a 5th for Julian Peterson.

Now there is news that Foote wants to leave the Steelers to come here.

Not only is the talent upgrading, but the attitude is improving among players. Mayhew did a good job of getting rid of the players who didn't want to be here and is bringing in players that want to be here and want to help this team win.

It's still to early to tell the results. But I have no qualms over any of Mayhews moves thus far.

Very true. Rebuilding is going to take time (unless you are Miami i guess). Stocking up on talent and not pure need is a very good move.

Grabbing Foote to play MLB for 2-3 years would do wonders for this team me thinks.

Larry Foote is now a Detroit Lion. He received a one-year deal and will look to work for a long term deal next year with the Lions. :D

WLB: Ernie Sims
MLB: Larry Foote
SLB: Julian Peterson

Not too shabby.

Larry Foote was on Sirius radio and stated that he asked for a one-year deal so that he could prove himself to the Lions brass and hopefully work for a multi-year deal next season.

Larry Foote (28) and Julian Peterson (30) are our oldest linebackers. The next oldest are Cody Spencer who is 27 and Alex Lewis who is 26. The other 9 LBs are under the age of 25. We have a really young LB corp.

I'm interested in seeing Follett. He has played all 3 LB positions in college but claims that he needs to work on his coverage skills. "I want to be the smartest player as well as the most feared."

Word out of training camp is that DeAndre Levy has been playing MLB in mini camp.

I'm excited to get a glimpse of these new guys.
