No more RMR

Utah Jazz president Randy Rigby announced today that the 2009 Rocky Mountain Revue has been canceled. The team will reevaluate the viability of the event for the summer of 2010. The Jazz will be fielding a team at the Orlando Pro Summer League held at the RDV Sportsplex July 6-10. “Since the NBA began its own summer league in Las Vegas, we have slowly been losing participation in our event. The few teams that played in both Utah and Vegas, have now decided to forgo the Rocky Mountain Revue and only attend Vegas for budgetary reasons,” said Rigby. “We want to thank our fans for the support they have shown the Rocky Mountain Revue over the years and we look forward to finding other ways to connect with them this summer.”

Well, the offseason just got a lot ****.

We all saw it coming, but its still really sad. The Vegas league killed the RMR. I am a bit dissapointed that the Jazz chose to participate in the Orlando summer league, though. Its easy to get cheap flights or make a road trip to Vegas or LA. Orlando . . . not so much.

I almost always made it down to at least one RMR game. Always a packed house. Too bad they couldn't make it work.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

That's horrible, RMR is one of the best parts of the season.

I'll really miss this event. I remember seeing AK play for the first time in a RMR game once he finally came over from Russia; I was amazed by how easily people would blow by him on the perimeter, then AK would somehow recover and stuff them at the rim... and you think he can't shoot now? His shot was just painful to watch then- but he was everywhere... Wow, I thought, this guy is gonna be GOOD... but its gonna take a while.

I've gone to the RMR religiously since I was a little kid. I use to rebound for the players during warm-ups at the gym at East High. The big names that came through back then, Shawn Kemp, Dana Barros, Alaa Abdelnaby, Chris Jackson (before name change), Sedalle Treat, Cedric Ceballos...the Jazz man that surprised everyone and established himself during the revue was David Benoit. I'll miss those games...

Really big bummer. RMR was always good fun.

1320 says that the Jazz will be playing in Orlando.

I am especially bummed that we in SLC will not be able to see ANY of our young guys play. I dont think that Orlando allows spectators, and I am sure that KJZZ wont send a crew down there. Maybe if they played in Vegas that wouldnt be too bad to send Boler up there?

Good old things are not bound to survive too long in this corporative, virtual, bewitched era... sad offseason start... :(

Sad indeed :(

I've been going almost every year for the past 10 years or so. I still remember going to one at the Delta Center that had Dirk and Magette both playing. I told my brother that I thought this Dirk guy might end up being pretty good in the league.

What a blow... The only worst thing that could happen now is if Boozer doesn't opt out, and if Okur opts out and gets signed by another team.

Darn it.

Boozer is a vag... I can see him staying if no one shows interest.

I could be wrong, but as I recall from watching games online the past couple of years, they really don't have much attendance at the games; there's very limited seating and I'm not sure that they even sell tickets or anything

here's a website (still has last year's information):

Limited seating? Yes? Low attendance? Heck no. The gym is always full for the Jazz games and mostly full for the others.

This is a huge bummer, I loved the RMR. It was one of my favorite things to go to.

The LHM def feels like its going down the drain....
