Spyware on RealGM?

Post#1 » by HEATVols865 » Sun Feb 15, 2009 12:08 am

Are you guys also getting messages from your anti-virus telling you there is a spyware as soon as you log on to RealGM?
I've had it all day today and a few pop ups even though I have all pop ups blocked...AVG has been going nuts every time visit this website.

The problem is still not fixed. Got redirected to
http://fowieqozx.com/xyewiowerioa/pdf.p ... 9465&vis=1

from this website, but did not download anything crazy this time. Probably an ad-clicker or something.

I've been redirected a few times, but nothing from AVG.

Yea, I've had problems too. I use Google Chrome and I always get the red warning page. Yesterday something tried to start downloading on my computer, but obviously I knew not to accept it.

Fix this ish please RealGM.

Not sure if this helps, but this is the type of things I get:

If I see them I'll try to keep getting screen shots if the IP address differs. But seriously, this should get fixed.

I have made an adjustment which should eliminate these problems. Please let me know if you encounter any further problems.

I've noticed RealGM keeps trying to throw some ad related stuff on the site (keyword links etc). All of these are a bit dangerous unfortunately, as the companies that run them are constantly getting more creative/installing more crap to justify their sales to advertisers.

Understand the reasoning RealGM is trying to branch out to pay their bills, but if the ad model isn't working I'd suggest adding a premium tier granting things like avatar/sig hosting, and special badges for those who join, and removal of ads. Maybe even grant blogs (induveca.realgm.com) for instance, and email induveca@realgm.com. Charge 29.99/year. You'll be surprised how many of us would buy it to support you guys. Just give us a reason.

If you have 250k reg users, and 0.05% sign up (which I think is very realistic), that's around 40k a year. You can still keep your banner ads as well. Just a thought.

You would really pay to use this website? I know I wouldn't. It's a great website, but I have other more important stuff to use my money with, like college.

Second time in a few months that RealGM has infected my computer with malware. Mal_Hifrm, specifically. First time I fixed it with anti-malware. Don't know what to do this time. Please do something to screen your advertisers or I'll stop visiting the forums.

Are no staff members or Admin's going to reply to this thread? I would like an explanation from the site, the problem caused me to lose tons of data, and although it is partially my fault by being dumb enough to click on a pop up in Firefox, but still, I know it came from here, it was the only site I was at after booting my PC, and I had heard of problems with Real Gm before, and have had some of the same issues the others here are talking about.
But the Admin's are not talking and I wish you would, plus I know of a group that could help you find and eliminate the problem if you wish.

I've had no problems. But I would suggest if you're using Firefox as a minimum I would have installed McAfee Site Advisor, NoScript and Flashblock add-ons. I'd also suggest downloading a program called Spyware Blaster. It edits your hosts file with common spyware sites and cookies that it blocks automatically.

I've definitely had problems due to this site as well, it would be nice for an admin to actually address this thread.
