Should Pedro Martinez be considered a pitching option?

Post#41 » by YogiStewart » Sat May 2, 2009 7:41 pm

I have no idea if Pedro has anything left....
but he likely has a lot more than what's been trotted out as injury replacements.
IF he would come for the vet minimum, should Pedro be considered by the Jays' staff?

also keep in mind: today is Saturday. less than 20 000 at the game. what else do you expect when no-names are pitching?

The only problem with Pedro is that he wants too much money considering the fact that he isn't as good as he used to be. If we could get him for cheap then I'm all for it.

don't know if anyone posted this from earlier in the week:

Ricciardi doesn't plan to pursue any of the current free-agent pitchers -- the likes of Pedro Martinez, Paul Byrd, et al. "The kids are our future, so we're sticking with them, and they've played great," Ricciardi said. Toronto's offense is dramatically improved this season, as the Blue Jays lead the majors in offense. Meanwhile, pitchers such as Brian Tallet have stepped up into the rotation void.

Don't get your hopes up for JP to sign somebody.

If we sign him, then he is gonna take a while to get ready, maybe end of May. And by then we should have Janssen, Romero and Listch back. I dont see a reason to sign him he might be as good as one of those guys. Plus your over estimating how many people will come if he pitches.

I would love for the Jays to go after some talent, but sadly I really doubt this happens. JP's big offseason move was to get Clement, to me that is the barometer of what to expect out of him. I agree that the young guys have really been key to the success, but this has been from an offensive point of view.

I hope JP doesn't spoil this great start by standing pat and being happy to surprise the league. I would very much love to see this team back in the playoffs, and realistically this probably means making some moves to get us there.

I'm with JP on this one, none of the free agent pitchers really impress me. I would rather just have the prospects like Cecil or Mills get some big league experience, they are the future anyways

I'm kind of leaning more toward that now too.
