Re: '09 Free Agent big men
here's a link to Lorbek's stats:
http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?pcode=BWL
All i can say about Lorbek is that he's continually developing. He's progressing and now he's becoming one of Euroleague's most promising players.
People compare him to Mehmut Okur, but i think he plays a lot more like Brad Miller. A less physical, but quicker Brad Miller. He can hit the occassional three, but not as frequently as Okur does. He can score on the post, but he needs a little more bulk. He's a pretty good passer too, but not much of a reliable rebounder. What i like about his game is his mid-range jumpshot. He's got a good, high release ala Nowitzki, and yah, he can swish it in like Dirk. You can rely on his fade-aways.
Defensively, he is not ala Marc Gasol. He's more of an offensive player than a defensive stopper. But that doesn't mean that he's a bum on defense, usually he takes advantage of his quickness on defense.
He would surely get a lot of minutes than McBob, he can be the primary back-up at pf, or even at C if Obie needs quicker guys.
I'm just not so sure when he'll be eligible to bolt for the NBA though. Hope we could have him this year.

I'm not holding my breath on Lorbek or Stanko ever coming to play for us.

I hope Lorbek's improved an awful lot since he played at Michigan State.

Agreed, we've gone what, 3 years without a sign of either coming over?
It would be nice, but at this point, I just don't see it happening.

I think Brandon Bass would fit in well here.

Re: '09 Free Agent big men
The guy i would really want is Marcin Gortat of the Orlando Magic. And i think he's a free agent this summer. Now, before you call me biased because he's Polish, i really like his game. Last night he got 5 boards and 6 points in just 10 minutes. Dwight Howard is suspended for Game 6 and Gortat will get real minutes and we'll see how he does. When he gets over 20 minutes a game, his stats are more times then not pretty good. It's when he gets little minutes when his stats drop down. What do you guys think? I really think he will be a star in this league. All-Star? Maybe not. But not too far out.

I like Zaza Pachulia. Not really an athletic type, but he hustles and I like his game. He reminds me a little of a younger Jeff Foster. He's real scrappy around the rim and he provides a toughness we're missing.
I wonder if the Hawks would let him go. He's not a starter but he's an important piece backing up Horford.

I like Pachulia.. but i don't think we need another (as you've said) Jeff Foster.
What we need is a reliable post-up guy on the offensive end and someone who is athletic enough to play defense.

How tall is 2.08? That's how all Lorbek is.

^^Australians are versed in imperial? I remember some countries I visited where they know some of both (China recognizes inches, and I believe miles, but not much else). I wasn't in Australia long enough to get familiar with the units of measurement.

Re: '09 Free Agent big men
We actually don't use measurements. Just phrases like "a fair bit" and "tall".
