Opening Day Roster
Well, looks like the roster is set now. Burriss beat out Frandsen at 2B, so they're sending K-Fran to AAA to play every day. Aurilia and Uribe will be the primary back-up infielders. Looks like Velez makes the team, as does Andres Torres. So, there'll be plenty of speed on the bench (add Schierholz to that equation as well). Sounds like they'll be carrying 12 pitchers and keep Rule 5 draftee Luis Perdoma on the roster so as not to send him back to StL or attempt to have him clear waivers to send to AAA. So, Sandoval will probably be the backup Catcher. Jesus Guzman is going back to AAA to find a position (although I'm fully expecting the dumb asses to play him at DH quite a bit). I'm guessing AA righty Joe Martinez even makes the team as a long reliever.
The season will probably hinge on how well Lewis, Ishikawa, and Sandoval perform at the plate and Howry/Affeldt shoring up the 'pen. We'll need a bounce back year from Rowand as well. The starting staff should be fine, assuming Randy can stay injury free and Zito can keep his velocity in the high 80's as he did in his last outing. I'm hopeful that Sanchez has his break out year and Cainer can get some run support.
I kind of like the makeup of the roster. They'll probably need to beef up the lineup before te trade deadline, but I'm excited to see what the young guys can do for the first few months.
It's looking like this is it:
C - Molina
1B - Ishikawa
2B - Burriss/Uribe
3B - Sandoval/Aurilia
SS - Renteria
LF - Lewis/Velez
CF - Rowand/Torres
RF - Winn/Schierholz
SP - Lincecum/Johnson/Cain/Zito/Sanchez
CL - Wilson
RHP - Perdoma/Valdez/Howry/J Martinez
LHP - Affeldt/Hinshaw
DL - Lowry/Romo
Do you see anything different? How do you like the roster?

Re: Opening Day Roster
Well, Perdomo kind of flopped over the weekend and the Giants decided he was too green to carry on the roster. So, they went with the vet Medders. Hopefully, Perdomo can sneak through waivers so he can go to Fresno for more seasoning.
Torres is going to be the emergency catcher behind Bengie and Pablito.

Gotta be thankful pedro feliz is no longer our "emergency catcher". Seeing taschner in a phillies uniform made me even more excited for the season to start, good riddance.

Pablo should be batting cleanup. Molina is too slow to be batting cleanup.

Yeah, I can't wait to find out which relief pitcher we're going to hate this year.

I have a feeling Brian Wilsons will be that guy; he has to run out of luck when allowing so many hits in he 9th inning. Last year he got out of a lot of bad situations he created. It seems he pitches better w/ men in scoring position.

With Walker and Taschner gone, somebody's gonna have to step up.

Damn I blocked walker out of my memory. Saw he signed a minor league contract.

Yeah, with the Phillies. He and Jackie Boy might re-unite.

It's too early to start hating on the relievers.
Give it a week.

Swept by the Padres. Tells me all I need to know about this season unless we pull off a trade for a true cleanup hitter.

Re: Opening Day Roster
Is it me or does Zito look like his old Cy Young form when Molina isn't catching?

Can't watch a lot of games, but let's hope that was the problem.

Oh my Christ, one of the first pitchers up from the minors is Misch? Who promptly gets in and puts a game out of reach? Whose nephew is he, anyway?
