Woodson responds to Barry's negative comments

Post#1 » by Hawkeyes » Mon May 4, 2009 8:17 pm

Per Realgm:
Hawks coach Mike Woodson has responded to comments made by NBA analyst Jon Barry on ESPN recently.

Barry called the Hawks/Heat series the worst seven-game series ever, and predicted that Atlanta will get swept by Cleveland in four games.

"Man, I could care less about what Jon Barry is saying," Woodson said on 790 the Zone in Atlanta.

"That's what he's doing what he's doing and we're doing what we're doing. What he says don't amount to nothing. Again, I don't even know why I've wasted my words on Jon Barry. My focus right now is with my team and trying to get ready for Cleveland. I'm trying to figure out what has he done in the league, really. That's just how I look at. I'm moving on."

Not the biggest Woodson fan, but good for him. Barry made sure that he insulted us as much as he possibly could even after winning a series for Miami. I just laugh at the fact that he was an absolute scrub as an NBA player, and is an even worse NBA commentator. I don't get why they'd hire an irrelevant basketball player anyways, but I guess it doesn't matter if you amounted to anything in the league or not. Hopefully we prove him wrong, but like Woody said, it is just Jon Barry.

Why does ESPN hire former athletes who accomplished nothing in their careers as analysts? Jon Barry, Tim Legler, Tim Hasselbeck, Sean Salisbury, Jay Bilas, Jesse Palmer. How do these guys get labeled experts on anything? I guess white guys play well in middle America or something.

^^^ I don't think you have to be a great player to be able to analyze the game. Mediocre players also pan out better as HC's and GM's.

ESPN sucks anyways.

This is dumb. Just because a player wasn't a great player doesn't mean they don't know a ton about the game or how to analyze it. Tim Legler and Greg Anthony are actually two very good analysts and neither were great players. I really like Salisbury also.

MJ was the GOAT and he sucks at GMing. Isiah, same.

Because the real good players can't give good analysis. Look at how bad Tim Hardaway was, GREAT player but damn THE WORST tv guy ever.

it's not the fact that barry didn't give good analysis, it the fact that he basically made fun of a team that had spent the past year trying to get out of the first round. jon barry sounded like a jerk that really didn't have anything positive to say which says more about his knowledge about teams that aren't one of the more premiere teams in the NBA. this would be like mike golic saying that the cardinals are really a crap team that's shouldn't even be in the playoffs mush less the second round. ken wisenhunt would be pissed off as well at that slap in the face.

bottom line is that jon barry owed woodson, the hawks, and the city of atlanta an apology which he gave a day later.

That being said, JB is probably right about us being swept in 4 with CLE being on a mission and us missing 3 starters. JJ may give it a try but he is no Willis Reed...
