Kings are going to be a great team soon

Post#1 » by diggity_88 » Tue May 5, 2009 3:12 am

I was just checking out teams, and I was taking in the Kings outlook for the future.. and I just realized if you guys make smart/lucky decisions, you guys are gonna be a pretty good 4-5 seeded team in the next 3-4, MAYBE 2-3 years.

I'm basing this on if you pick up Rubio this year. Then, have a solid, all around defensive 3, with the athletic ability to run the floor and spread it out to the 3. One of those glue guys.. sorta like trying to find a younger James Posey. The closest person that I can see you getting like that in next years draft (and this is just from brisking around some prospects) is Victor Clavor. He seems to fit the bill perfectly, as long as he works extremely hard on his defensive work, since he has all the tools for it.

Anyways, I just thought id make a post of it, because like most people i'm a huge fan of potential.

And with

Rubio 19
Martin 26
Glue Guy ??
Thompson 19
Hawes 20

That's just friggin scary. Especially if you get the right coach and guys to come off the bench, you could beome the next portland. Except where they have Oden you have Rubio.

Just thought i'd drop by and tell you how exciting the next two years should be for this team, and that you guys should be very pumped to know you have a bright future ahead for you guys. And, feel special to watch these young guys grow as a team together... alot of teams don't get this luxury.

I appreciate the post because during these times most fans seem to be very pessimistic. I don't think many people are looking at the light at the end of the tunnel. I know I am. I think Noc can be the Vet leader too. If Rubio pans out, I'd say we need a scorer off the bench (Mccants?) and a major hustle big guy.

I would still not mind overpaying the sh** out Marvin Williams to get him here. I think he would make a a complete team and we would be contenders for YEARS.

Or, perhaps even Evan Turner would be a good fit at the 3 also

I think if you're looking for a energy big guy, the 3 best in the league IMO is

Chris Anderson(but i doubt hes leaving Denver)
Reggie Evans
And probably at the cheapest is Pops Mensah Bonsu.. i'm a raps fan so i know this guy gives life to your whole roster, and is a rebounding monster. But, don't expect much more then that.

Thompson is 22, and will be 23 next year. That changes things a bit, and should be one of the factors that has us taking Griffin over Rubio. I do like the optimism, and hope you are right.

oh **** you're right. i saw 1986 and took off 2 years instead of adding from 88 (my birthdate, thats hwo i do the math) my bad, brains not working.

Do you think if you guys get the #1 pick and Clips get the #2, u could trade Jason Thompson, 10 Lotto protected pick, and another first rounder pick, you could pick up Rubio and have them both on the same team? that'd be a dream eh

You speak the truth diggity. If the kings play their cards right, we could compete within 4 years. Nick and I also agree on Williams. PERFECT fit.

I haven't really seen much of the hawks, and when I have paid attention to Marvin Williams, so I can't give a great opinion on him or how he'd fit a team.

But the one last thing I gotta add, is that it seems most people seem to be on the low end of things. But, what you have to understand is that, don't foget....most C's take about 3-5 years to really come into there own and break out, and PF's take about 3-4 years. So they're going to explode all around the same time. Especially since i've noticed that your 4 and 5 have great chemistry, and can find each other very well. Also, with Rubio going out take about 3-4 years to break out.

Thats why im saying your going to be scary. You have your point guard (one that looks like hes going to be special none the less). Your scorer in Kevin Martin. Your scoring, defense(that will come) downlow, with Hawes(some say sorta resembles Divac) and Thompson(some say a poor mans Webber). If you get that defensive specialist to glue your guys together. You cant think of a better up and coming starting 5.

I completely agree. I'm glad there are non-fans out there who can recognize that. Sac gets little respect.

If we win the lotto, and the Clips get #2, I like where u are going with that. Thompson/top 10 protected/ 2nd round 1st pick this year (or the 23rd pick) for Rubio would be great. Could you imagine...
pg. Rubio
sg. Martin
sf. Marvin Williams
pf. Griffin
c. Hawes
Thats a playoff team next year, and a championship team within 3-4.

I agree. I think Williams is just a must. Unfortunately it definitely isn't happening.

I'm still a bit skeptical about griffin, but this recent knight on curry has opened my eyes to him as well. We really can't do wrong as long as we draft a lottery point guard. what about trading down with Minnesota(could be for rubio) and then we could also get the 18 (Mullens)

Rubio/Udrih
Martin/Garcia/ Terrence Williams
Marvin Williams/Noc
Thompson/Greene/Daye
Hawes/Mullens

that looks pretty good to me, and could be reasonable.

Unfortunately, I just don't see the Clips doing that. I think that no matter who the team is, if we want both Griffin and Rubio, we'll have to trade Kevin, and I don't see us doing that.

What about this:
We get the #1 Pick and we take Blake Griffin.
We trade the #23 Pick and #31 and Kenny Thomas for the #8 pick and filler?.(Knicks get expiring contract).
With the 8th pick we select Brandon Jennings.
We work a deal with hornets and get Byron Scott.
We work a sign and trade with Orlando for Hedo and trade Beno and Noc for Hedo and Pietrus.

Jennings/ B-Jax
K-Mart/ Pietrus
Hedo/ Garcia
Griffin/ Thompson
Hawes/ Thompson

If we are going to have a rookie be our point guard we had better have a player like Beno around to fill in the gaps until the rookie gets on his feet. He'll still be too expensive, but we'll need someone like him.

Thats a scenerio I could see happening, maybe not with the knick and maybe not in this off season but somewhere along the lines we could give up Kenny for draft picks

The problem is that filler. I could see them trying to throw in an Eddy Curry or something. In that case, it would not be worth it.

I would take Eddie Curry for that roster any day of the week. The problem is, that roster is 100% absolutely, positively not gonna happen. Im pretty sure you cannot include other additional players in a sign and trade anyway. And Scott is almost certainly staying with NOH. If he doesn't the Hornets are brain dead and we will be happy to take him off their hands.

If the Knicks even remotely consider that deal, we will have to take back Curry and Jeffries. Knicks have no pick next year, so unless if it's a great deal for them, they won't be trading away that pick.

The is also a zero percent chance of Orlando considering that deal. Hedo is better than Nocioni and Pietrus has a lot more value than Beno. They add salary to get two worse players. Unless we offer Hedo a near max deal, chances are Orlando will match anything we throw at them instead of taking on Nocioni and Beno.

I would only agree with you on byron scott. Literally everything you said I would disagree with. I think that we should trade to two and take rubio, sheading a contract and picking up another first rounder in the process, but if we decided to take griffin, then we need to trade thompson. Probably package him with our other picks and try to get #2. If not, then we should trade thompson and 23 for augustine and 11 and take earl clark. And we should not trade for hedo and pietrus. At least beno fills a need, and hedo would end up being heavily overpaid.
