Who would you pick?

Post#1 » by lakersfanatic » Mon May 4, 2009 10:15 pm

I know it's a tough choice but base on todays' article in Realgm. There is a high chance we're not going to be able to keep them both. Which comes down to... which would you guys prefer to keep?

Man, this hurts... cuz both having been playing awesome. Can't we let go someone else? lol.

P.S. i didn't put out the choice for "keeping both" because i know everyone would probably pick that thus making the thread useless hehe ;-).

I'd have to go with Odom, because he makes us a more versatile team and he fortifies our bench, Although Ariza has been great for us ..... We should let Ariza go b/c it will be cheaper and easier to find a replacement for him.

Also Odom causes match-up problems he single handedly beat the cavs in Cleavland.

Actually, look at it as 1) Odom or 2) Ariza and Brown. The $$ outlay probably breaks down that way.

Without Odom:
Bynum/Mbenga
Gasol/Powell
Ariza/Luke/Morrison
Kobe/Sasha
Fisher/Brown/Farmar

Is there a team that would take Morrison's EC, Luke, Sasha and Farmar's ex yr? Without giving anything back? That'd free up 17-18 mil to give to LO, Ariza, Brown :)

ImageOdom i think brings more talent at this point than Brown and Ariza combined, but since both are young and with an already expensive roster, 2 useful rotation/starting players would have to be the choice.

Odom for sure. Both of them will be back next season. What team is really going to throw big money at ariza? He's playing really well and I think alittle has to do with it being his contract year. Same with shannon brown. Id rather have brown than ariza

Odom and it's not even close

Odom to Ariza is the same as Gasol to Odom *if that makes sense*

Meaning as a no brainer youd take pau over odom, same thing with odom to ariza

The real question is do yuou keep Lo or Ariza and Brown... The answer is Ariza and Brown as we are already over the salary CAP next year and Powell will get the left over 4 and 5 minutes... EVERY penny we pay LO is doubled because of the luxery tax...

Oh man, I would really have to pick Odom but if this really happens, I would surely miss Ariza just like Ronny, even much more.

yeah, u guys are right.. LO would contribute way more than Ariza but age is also a factor... LO is in his prime right now so he's hungry. Plus he presents a lot of mismatches out there...

I woudl really prefer them getting rid of Ammo, farmar...etc. and then keep these 2 as well as shannon. But until that decision day comes.. I know it'll be a hard day for all of us... :-/

I'm pretty surprised I'm in the miinority on this thread.

Both excellent players, but my decision would be with T Ariza, younger, cheaper, but more than that he brings it every night, he's a ballhawk on both sides of the ball. Let's be honest LO is 28 and this is the first year he's really looked in tune with everything, it's taken beyond too long for him to get in the game, Ariza is already in it year 2.

good analysis there duba.

It's true.. LO has been very inconsistent where as ariza looks like he's already there.. plus he is cheaper as well. I guess the reason why most of us are chosing LO over Ariza is because of his versatility and the potential ability of mismatches he can create going against other opponents. But his problem is consistency and using that to his advantage where as ariza has been a solid defender and descent scorer for us..

hate to see either of them go if it comes down to the wire. Even though mr. buss said he wants to keep the team intact.. we all know it'll come down to money. If kobe is willing to sacrifice, i say mr. buss should take the humble step as well.

This isn't really close. Overrating Ariza much? Overrating Bynum's ability to play healthy all year much?

ODOM is the pick and I don't even like Odom.

While were at it who should we keep Gasol or Josh Powell?

this isnt close at all

good big men are at in short supply in the league. odom gives the lakers an auto mismatch every time he steps on the floor.

theres an overwhelming amount of statistical evidence that despite odom's low per game stats, he impacts the game in intangible ways that seems to make the 5-man unit hes playing in perform better than they otherwise would.

replacing odom is at least 2 to 3 times harder than replacing ariza
