What exactly were the reports? I think the main idea is that we couldn't have dumped him for expiring contracts this summer, which is what we wanted. I could be wrong on that though.

Even though, it was from a blog but there were rumors about the Celtic/Nocioni talks after the Kings traded for Noc:

Chad Ford: (12:09 PM ET ) We keep hearing all morning that the Celtics were talking to the Kings about a deal for Nocioni. The Kings can move him again as long as they don't package him with other players on their roster. The Celtics would send back Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Glen Davis and Patrick O'Bryant. However, a Celtics source says there's nothing happening there. A Kings source, however, says it would be a possibility. I wonder why the Celtics WOULDN'T do that. Nocioni would be a great piece for them.

UPDATE: Chad Ford: Celtics insist they aren't trading for Nocioni. Interesting because i think the Kings would do the deal.

I think it is just rumors in the end of the day IMO.

So it doesn't look like it was anything definite. On the other hand, if Boston really was interested in a deal like that, I think it combats the myth that Noc isn't movable.

Once the coaching situation is figured out this summer, there is a better likelihood that Noc will have a defined role that plays off his strengths. If it doesn't work out, well, it's not the end of the world. A decreasing contract like Noc's is always more movable than bloated contracts like Kenny Thomas'.

Just to clarify. It was Levian that was the catalyst to keeping Noc, not Petrie.

 I swear some of you act like NOC will be impossible to move, if the Boston rumor is true then that should Prove that he can be a valuable asset down the road.

Even if the Boston rumor is true, how is Nocioni anywhere near a valuable asset?

The package was from a contending team that has absolutely no shot at getting cap for 2010, and it would have given us absolute garbage expirings for Nocioni.

If anything, it proves that Nocioni has pretty much no value whatsoever.

Valuable? Probably not. Movable? Probably.

trade Nocioni for Marbury and a second round pick.... (S&T, Steph proved he can be a good boy)

shoot, imagine this, very possible....
Stephon Marbury
Kevin Martin
Trevor Ariza/Marvin Williams
Blake Griffin/Jason Thompson
Spencer Hawes

don't tell me that wouldn't be ok

Yuck. Stephon Marbury is WASHED UP, and in fact he was never very good in the first place.
Boston has a lot more to offer than Stephon FREAKING Marbury.

Tony Allen
Brian Scalbrine
Gabe Pruitt
JR Giddens

for

Nocioni

Why?

We cut out 2010 salary, while adding roster pieces now. A couple(Allen/Pruitt) that have some raw talent that could be used on our roster. This is the cheapest way to fill out the roster.

C: Hawes, BJ Mullens(23), Scalabrine
PF: Griffin(1), Thompson, Thomas
SF: Garcia, Greene
SG: Martin, Allen, Giddens
PG: Udrih, Pat Mills(31), Gabe Pruitt

I like THAT roster much better as now we have significant cap room for 2010.

I imagine that IF we did that trade with Boston before the trade deadline, that most of the players would have been cut and returned to the Celtics, much like what happened with Sam Cassell. A trade like that (1 for 3 or 4) just leaves the Celtics with absolutely no one on the bench.

Probably the same way Nocioni was valuable to the Kings, as a player.

Return to Sacramento Kings
