When Yankees play Red Sox

Post#1 » by Mak » Wed May 6, 2009 2:14 am

who do you cheer for? I think there is no chance of us finishing ahead of both and Boston looks much better so far. Red Sox won all 4 games this year against NY and have a chance to win their 5th tonight.

What do you think? Is Boston clearly the best team in the East? What about the Rays?

The extraordinarily slim chance the Jays have of making the playoffs involves two of the Sox/Yanks/Rays falling off the table, and general mediocrity prevailing in the rest of the league. The Sox will be there in my estimation, so a complete implosion by the Yankees is the only hope we have.

I think at this point one cannot say that we are a worse team than the yankees. they have played fairly badly up to this point; despite their tendency to get hot around june/july.

tampa, again despite being early in the season; makes it almost look like their last season was a complete fluke. something with younger teams - you get confident, and sometimes are capable of huge things. once you start feeling as if you are struggling - nothing good comes with this.

realistically speaking, boston is probably the best team talent wise in the east. but in my opinion the jays have to be considered as a front-runner to take the wild card. there is much said about the young blue jays pitchers, but they are delivering to this point. it is important to see though how the jays play against these teams considering that the best way to put distance between you and your division rivals is to beat them yourselves.

as far as who i cheer for? it would be nice to see boston lose, considering early jockeying for first in the east - however in the long stretch if boston really puts a hurting on ny this season that's just more losses for the yankees leaving us good to win the wild card.

I cheer for Boston. Like Schad said Boston is more then likely going to be there but the Yankees aren't a guarantee. If by some miracle we have a good amount of distance between us and the Yankees later in the season, I'll start to cheer against Boston.

Wow... what pathetic fans we have. "no chance" of us finishing above both? Of course there's a chance.

Anyway I obviously hope both somehow lose, but of course that isn't possible. So when I see the two play, I usually hope for long, drawn-out games that go into extra innings to tire out both teams players. A little injury on either side wouldn't hurt either (nothing serious of course). At this very moment I'd probably hope the Yankees win the series overall, since Boston is closest to us record-wise. Perhaps a blowout for each to help destroy the confidence of a couple of pitchers too...

If the Jays were ALREADY eliminated, I would probably cheer for the Sox for their Canadian content (Bay).

i want both teams to just beat up on each other... since NYY haven't won against BOS yet, I'd root for them to "even" the series up... I do'nt want one to have such a huge advantage over another..

I can't bring myself to cheer for either. In the past I would have said the Red Sox, but since they won the WS, and all that 'Red Sox Nation' BS popped up, I find them to be just as difficult to root for as the yankees.

If i had to choose, I would go with the one who is doing worse so this season it would have to be the skankees.

This "extraordinary slim chance" comment is a bit too pessimistic. The Jays may not be likely to make the playoffs, but they've certainly shown they're worthy of being considered to have an outside chance, as opposed to a "extraordinary slim chance". Now the Baltimore Orioles, they would fall into that category based on both their start and the expectations people had for them.

To answer the question in the orginal post, I cheer for the Red Sox. It would have to really help the Jays for me to cheer for the Yankees.

I cheer Sox just simply because to make it to the playoffs all the Jays have to do is finish above one of them basically, and seeing as the Sox are the better team, they might as well just beat down the Yanks and improve the Jays chances of finishing ahead.

I think that we could possibly be ahead of all three teams, but it's unlikely.

Boston seems to have the most complete package, and at this point looks like it has the combination of deadly hitting and good starting pitching to kill us in our head to head match ups.

I think we can beat the Yankees in any series because of their shaky pitchy, and their park is shaping up to be a hitter's paradise. Lastly, Tampa is 6 games back already, which in my opinion is an excellent head start, considering we have to just split our series' with them.
Pretty neat and on the fridge for the real fans:

Basically my thinking too. If the Sox can pile the losses onto the Yanks then it's really going to improve our chance to get the wildcard. Probably our best chance at the PO's with our pitching staff.

The way things are shaping up it looks like 90 wins could possibly get the wild card this year. Which means for the rest of the year if we can pull out 9 games over .500 we have a shot.

the good thing is that as of this moment, the Jays will determine their own destiny, as they are the current leader of the division.. but i can see the Red Sox, NYY, or Tampa going on one of those 15-4 or 20-6 type of streaks

I hate the Red Sox. I can't cheer for them to win any game. Papelbon, Pedroia, Youkilis.....such unlikable people.

I have to go to a Red Sox game this year and sit in right field, just so I can give Papeldouche an earful.

I already have an idea for Pedroia. Just gonna buy and put on those bald hair caps, and bring a sign that says Dustin Pedroia fan club. The guy is 25 and balding.

Or if you want to really piss him off (and probably go way too far), you could heckle him about his brother, the child molester: http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2009/01/25/dust ... n-charges/

I generally cheer for them to alternate winning and losing against each other. Just to give us a better chance. Back before 2004, I used to hope the Sox would keep losing and the Curse of the Babe would continue. Once they won, I didn't care anymore. But now they've just become annoying, so I hate them as much as the Yanks.

Just irks me that Jason Bay plays for the Sox.

I just hope they beat up on each other, preferably with high scoring games going into extra innings (more milage for their pitchers).
