btw, that lexus LS is ONE SERIOUS CAR...truly a beauty

It's HUGE. The problem for me is that it drives huge. The 745, never drove huge. It felt small and nimble. The LS is nice, but it's no 745. In any case, it's not for me to drive. It's my father's and he is in his late 50s and wants comfort. It provides comfort in spades. So for him it's great. He said how he did the sports car thing and doesn't care anymore. He told me about his "backpacking" trip through Europe, and it consisted of renting one high end supercar after another and driving on the autobahn with friends back in the early 70s. Sounds like my kind of backpacking.

The fuel delivery system was on multiple cars but it still was an issue. The key problem is that there has been a noise increase in the car with it. Obviously with a car like the LS, cutting down as much ambient noise as possible, so this hurts that. By the way, I know my LS has never parked itself, it sounds cool but it just takes too long. I can parallel park in 30-45 seconds, this takes like 5 minutes. Living in LI, I don't need to parallel often but if imagine 5 minutes to parallel park on some NYC street. It would be a nightmare. -Jitpal

dont buy benz, they are terrible maintenance wise

if u want to buy used, the best car to get value wise is the infinity....its not a name like lexus, so it depreciates more than lexus, bmw, etc....however, its bigger than the lexus which is a +, it is also more reliable than the germans...but performance wise, its a shade behind bmw....however, a used infinity is the best bang for the buck considering the whole package

if you want new, honestly, go take the caddy for spin, 0%, 3K back is a starting point, + repairs are cheaper and the americans have gotten their reliability on par with germans now (i have seen 7 new CTS in my area, it looks so nice)...my dad told me the deprecation is negligble at the moment for the american cars, i forgot his reasoning, so i will ask him tomorrow and post it for ya

Yea, my wife's aunt and her husband both have mercedes. I drove them several times, and I am not the biggest fan.. And yes, they spend time at the dealership repair dept.. too much for me.. I am a busy guy. I have 2 kids, basketball games for my son. Gymnastics for my daughter, I am a controller for a mid size company, I also am involved in several other businesses.. not to try to make myself sound like some hot shot(because I am not) but I am busy.. the last thing I want to do, is take my BMW or Benz to the shop on saturday and spend hours waiting for my car.... I love German cars, but for me, reliability is a huge part of car ownership and somehow the japanese auto makers have gotten that part right...

As far as the caddy, it is a sweet ride and the reliability of american cars are catching up with foreign auto makers as well.... I will take a look at that caddy as well...

you know, if u buy the new bmw, under their plan, for service or if the 'check engine' light comes on, the dealer will drive to ur workplace or house, give u a loaner, drive ur car back to the dealer, fix it and bring it back

but the dealer will only do this for u if u bought it for them (which kinda limits ur ability to shop around)

but then u dont have to worry bout taking it to the shop urself

really? id check the certified pre owned terms, i dont think everything is covered in it

here is my 2 cents, what do you want?

if you want a car that is 100% fun to drive, you go with german, and take the risk with the repair costs

the lexus IS is a sick car (esp the 350), but the rear seat is non existent and it isnt up to par to the germans fun wise...but this car will give you ZERO problems

with respect to audi or bmw? for pure driving pleasure, the bmw wins, although the audi has better AWD system (does tat matter to u) and looks, and has more space, and wins in the "comfort and livability" category

car and driver recently had a test of audi, infinity and bmw 3 series...and the 3 series won

id recommend the bmw

also i recommend getting new at the moment, they have great deals...in a recession, 2 things go up: used car sales and repair shops get more business....the used car dealers know people are gonna come to them, so they have jacked their prices up (i follow 20+ used car dealers and they all have increaed their prices in the last months)....i think this is the perfect time to buy new, youd get a great deal

yea, my friend has a 2006 BMW 745 , very nice car, very roomy, but always in the shop it seems, drives nice, but not as nice as the mercedes 500 and the 5 series bimmer seems to handle much better...

Also the new Cadillac CTS are very, very nice...

As far as BMW's warranty on the certified pre-owned.. it is 2 years 50k miles.. that is really, good.. now it is not the full maintenance plan you get when you buy new, but that is pretty damn good if you ask me..

And you are right, now is the time to buy new, but I purchased brand new before and taking that depreciation hit sucks.. I rather get a demo model with the warranty still in tact. not sure if the maintenance plan transfers as well...

I like the lexus, I love the idea of not having to worry about a 30K+ car and reparis. If I pay that much for a car, I want it to stay out of the shop. I don't want problems... I love german cars, but this is the big problem I have with them..

I love audi, but as you said, it just seems to always fall short of BMW in performance..

My family had a 2003 745li, an excellent car. I really miss it, but we never had problems with it. I know a few people who did, but not us. Conversely we replaced it with a LS460L by Lexus and while it isn't "sitting" in the shop there have been a bunch of niggling issues. There was a recall of some fuel pipe and since it has been making a lot more noise. The "refrigerator" in the rear passenger seat armrest wasn't cooling about 2 weeks into ownership and then when they "fixed" it, everything in it would be sticky after a few minutes because some pipe was leaking. Obviously, no where near as fun to drive.

I think you and I had talked about this last year. In June, I was right there between the 335xi and the G35xS. I couldn't justify the extra cost on the lease(almost double) to get the BMW. The BMW drove better with better fuel economy but the Infinti was much cheaper and came with a lot more tech. In the end, I really love my G35. I can't complain at all, except the air conditioning fans are the strongest I've ever encountered. I have to put it all on low, point the vents away from me to even get close to the temperature I want. In any case, it's a fantastic car. Nothing except for some oil changes. I don't know what prices look like now but I highly recommend the Infiniti. -Jitpal

I love that part about the BMW service and will weigh in heavily with my decision..
