J.R. Smith or Jason Richardson

Post#1 » by Dexmor » Wed May 6, 2009 4:58 pm

I have been saying we should go after Smith since I came on. (check my old posts it''s true)
Now lets pretend we didn't get Diaw or Bell and we had JRich would you do a JRich for JR Smith swap?

Obviously I would. I don't really like Smith but he could be an awesome #2 scoring option.

If we still had Richardson, I don't think we'd be able to get a deal together, so no.

Its tough to say, he might just end up being another J-rich. Still having him as our 6 man would be disgusting.

J.R. Smith would not only start but would probably not only be our first 20 point a game scorer he would average 20-24 points. He is almost getting that as a 6th man and they have real scorers. Melo as one. He could eventually be the best 3 point shooter in the game and were not talking about a guy who is not athletic here either.

We've had a 20ppg scorer before, Dex. He was also the best 3pt shooter in the game.

It's a little different. JRich basically peaked. His role is scoring now still but he is basically a role player on the Suns. He averaged 20 points just 1 year and he is obviously not a 20 point scorer anymore. His best years were on the Warriors. In that system and when he was young he got 20 plus.
Even on the Suns he is more of a 17 point a game scorer.
When I say 20 point a game scorer I mean somebody who will be consistantly that. Not a guy who basically declines at 26 years old.

J.R. Smith is probably a better scorer then him already and he is nowhere near his peak. He is still very young. He is 23 years old.

Dex, do your research.

Jrich has had 3 20+ppg scoring seasons, most recently with the Bobcats a season ago when he scored almost 22PPG (when he was 27). I have no doubt he would've been more than capable of scoring 20+PPG for us this season.

Smith is a better scorer already though, I'm just saying, you're underselling Richardson.

Yeah I know he did. I said his best years where on the warriors and he averaged 20 plus only 1 year for us. All that is true. No research needed. Everything was correct except the age. I put 26 when I meant to write 28. Typo.
Bottom line he really isn't a 20 point a game scorer anymore.

Richardson is better, but he's got miles. JR is getting better but he still has knucklehead tendacies that I'm not sure he'll ever get out of.

With LB as coach AND the salary differential (5.5 vs. 13.3) I'd have to go with JR. If it wasn't for the salary tho I'd take Richardon over JR easily.

Oh, ok Dex. I misunderstood you. Even when Jrich was a 20ppg scorer, he needed 35+mpg.

I pretty much agree entirely with what Spectre wrote.

With salary considered, JR. Without, Jason easily.

I would've rather got JR at this point though; http://www.nba.com/nuggets/news/nuggets ... 72006.html

The Bulls acquired him as a part of the Tyson Chandler/PJ Brown trade. They really seemed to want nothing to do with him.

I'm really convinced that Charlotte had a shot at Smith from the Bulls, but hesitated because of the Kareem Rush fiasco.

Well there both knuckleheads which is why even if JR Smith does get it up to above 20 a game he should still be a #2 guy and not #1. A JR Smith lead team would never go anywhere. JRich is a more dangerous knucklehead though because Smith is clearly young rookie type mistakes. JRich gets arrested and will never get it.

I think next year or even if you guys watch the Mavs Nuggs series you will take Smith. Next season to he will easily start and get his 35 mins a game.
Damm Denver is deadly. All I kept thinking about when it came to Lakers was Kobe vs Lebron and can they do it. No I have a few more worries.

I have to agree with Dex on this one. I'd take JR over Jason Richardson right now. I feel JR Smith is more than just a spot up shooter. Jason Richardson can shoot but he can't really drive (on or off the court). Smith's not afraid to drive and finish around the basket. Couple that with the fact that he's younger and got room to improve, I'd most certainly take him over J-Rich.

LOL.

But seriously, JRich is and always has been better than JR Smith. But Smith makes an appropriate (maybe even discounted) amount of money, and JRich makes too much, and Smith is 5 years younger. That makes him more desirable, but not better.

JR Smith is garbage. Anyone can come in here and chuck 3pters up there constantly. How about we get a real scorer?

I would love to get a real scorer. Problem is we don't have any stars to possibly give. We need to beat the bushes and get somebody who could blossom or is a catch 22. We need a #1.
