Re: shaq
Eh as much as Shaq is cool and will put fans in the seats, I think he isn't the type of player we want next to Brook since Shaq has to play so close to the basket. We need a different type of player next to Brook.

Re: shaq
As much as I would like to see Shaq here, I dont think we have enough to do it.
Unless the Suns are really salary dumping and want someone at 11 that wont be there at 14
Simmons, Hassel, Najera, Yi and 11 pick for Shaq and 14 pick.
Amare goes back to C. Yi plays PF. They let G. Hill go, Slide in Simmons, and have Najera coming off the bench.
Why Shaq?
Many reasons.
-Mentor for Lopez. Shaq already has been giving the kid advice. Think of it as Robinson and Duncan. Somewhat.
-Keep Everyone on their toes. Frank, VC, and Harris would have to walk the line. 4 rings waving in their face. No more Dribble and drive. Harris learns to pass the ball to Lopez and Shaq. VC becomes more effective as a Shooter since he already likes to do that and is getting older.
-Shaq would make us instant contenders in the east.
-Shaq resigns for less because he has business in NJ. For the Newark supporters, he tries his best but we still move to Brooklyn. He eventually gets some stakes in the brooklyn project.
As far as hampering Lopez, Depending on who is first PF/C of the bench, Shaq gets rest first. Lopez stays on the court longer.

Re: shaq
^^^^ If that happened, I'd welcome it. I mean, I don't think Shaq and Brook would mesh well together downlow, but a) I have been wrong in the past and b) We really are not giving up a lot to get him and c) we're consolidating our exprings into one which opens up to roster spots to try to fill out the bench with some decent vets.
If that happened too like you said, and they let Grant Hill walk, I'd slap a baby if we didn't land him for part of the MLE. He's been fairly healthy the last few years and I think would be great for a year or two until we can find a guy (or CDR is ready to step up) who can be our starter at the 3 for the next 5-8 years.

^ what makes you think he would see less minutes? it could very well become a david robinson/tim duncan situations for the nets... i love the idea... i think every one on the team can benefit from this... it'll give guards enough security to actually play d on the shooter so we dont get drilled from beyond the arc... our defense will be better, offensive rebound would be better... but if something like this were to happen i would want to keep boone on the team...

Mind you...DRob and TD's game had a lot more similarities than Brook and Shaq. My major concern is, bringing your comparison back, Robinson was 100% committed to the development of Duncan. He took a back seat and was asked to do every little thing (like take a reduced roll of offense and focus on shutting down the better front court player on defense) which allowed Duncan to flourish even in his rookie year. As much as Shaq is becoming more of a "Team First, Me Second" player in his old age, I can't see him taking it to the extreme Robinson did. Robinson also had the ability to knock down the 15' jumper as well so he could pull his man out to give Duncan 1-on-1's to help develop those disgusting moves he has used for the past decade. Shaq can't do that which is why I always say I want an athletic 4 with decent range playing next to Brook.
I would be fine with the experiment because Shaq may make the team money for once, but he's honestly not my first choice.

I kind of want a Craig Smith or Jason Maxiell playing next to Brook... A high energy bruiser is just what this team needs IMO...
(edit: The two guys I listed have limited range, but I figure if a team goes zone defense on the Nets that's when you bring in a guy like Ryan Anderson as a zone-breaker.)

but i think brook can gain some backbone from shaq, become a little tougher... will shaq himself do whats best for lopez? maybe not.... but the situation would still be ideal for lopez... aside from what shaq can do for lopez he actually has character... which is something the nets have lacked since the absence of k-mart... that alone can go along way...

Re: shaq
Im sure we can trade for Shaq and swing a pretty good deal for both sides but it really is a high risk high reward type of thing.
If everything goes right we'll be a contender, Lopez grows and learns from one of the best C's of all time the unit bonds and benefits from 4 excellent options on the offensive end and the bench continues the strong play of last year.
But on the other hand this can happen:
-Shaq clogs the paint and gives no touches to Broke.
-Broke becomes the second incarnation of his twin brother and Collins.
-Shaq acts like the ass that he is and turns the excellent locker room vibe to a terrible one.
-Everyone starts hating each other.
-We start trading key pieces of a rebuilding franchise before we even saw what the team can do.
-Frank gets fired (well actually this is a plus, a very big one actually JK)

I say do it. I would love to see him here. I would like to see how we would go. Crash and burn or shoot for the moon. Could we get phx pick next year instead of this one or is that too homerish?
Can Frank coach the kids?

How about Yi + Nets conditional 1st round draft pick for Shaq?

Haha that doesn't even come close to matching contracts. It'd have to be Yi/Simmons/Najera/1st and that may not even come close. Shaq makes 20 mill next year.

Nah that would work just barely I think.

NJN GETS: Shaq + Craig Smith ($23.3)
NJN GIVES: Yi + Simmons + Hassell + Boone + S. Williams + future lotto-prot 1st ($22,473,155)
PHO GETS: Mike Miller + Gomes + Boone + S. Williams + $3.4 TPE ($17,584,525)
PHO GIVES: Shaq + #14 ($21)
MIN GETS: Yi + Simmons + Hassell + #14 + future lotto prot 1st ($18,767,067)
MIN GIVES: Mike Miller + Gomes + Craig Smith ($16,198,437)
I've seen other proposals from NJN where posters try to trade Vince Carter for Shaq. I don't know if this is to dump Carter's next year, or because you want Shaq. I feel he'd certainly put fans in the seats (which I think you could use financially), and maybe help you lure LeBron next year. Basically, this is getting you Craig Smith (mentioned earlier) for Boone, and I would assume Shaq's expiring is more exciting than the your bench expirings.
Thoughts? Did I step on anyone you think is more valuable?

I'm going to be honest.I think this one is pretty mediocre for NJ. There's no denying what Shaq could conceivably do in terms of attendance. However, the price of two bigs (figure Boone/Smith are basically a wash) and a pick for an aging Shaq seems a touch excessive, especially when you already have a pretty nice center in Brook Lopez. Can the two of them really play at the same time?
I was one of the people that have proposed a trade that involved Shaq and Carter. The thing is that it also involved the Nets getting a pretty good replacement SG back in Jason Richardson.
With the downturn in the economy and its effect on the salary cap, the Nets are not in position to have max free agent cap room if they maintain the status quo. If getting that cap room is the goal, Carter could be gone, but they don't need to dump him for pure expirings. For that reason I am against the Vince/TMac rumors. Vince for Shaq is a little more appealing due to the other things that Shaq brings to the table, but a deal I still wouldn't make.
On an unrelated note, I tend to doubt the Suns do this trade since they give up the best player and arguably the most valuable "youth" in this deal with pick #14. I know they get 4 players and $3.4 mil in savings, but it still looks questionable for them IMO.

Its a RealGM 1st! When was the last time teams were looking out for each other? They thought you wouldn't do it.
IF two bigs is a problem, keep Shawn Williams. They need Boone with Shaq going, but I treated Williams like filler, and didn't even include him in my initial deal to PHO.
