But most of all I credit him with the results this team has gotten, as I said in the previous post: 13, 26, 30, 37, 47. . .
But for the life of me I don't see how someone can say that the head coach doesn't bear any responsibility for the success we've been having?

This might muttle the point, but at one point did our litigation and cap limitation end during those record increases. I like to look at wins/losses above all else, but I think the cap limit had the most impact on the team, which makes it hard to judge the coach on those numbers.

I feel have to regulate my evaluation of him to on court mistakes then. Our defense did look good on Wade, but Wade was hurt, and during the regular season our players didn't rotate quickly enough on many occassions. (And I think it's the coach's duty to get the players to a level of understanding and mental capacity that allows them to implement his system.) I see a lot of standing around in an stagnant offense too, and delays in calling timeouts when the momentum shifts. That leaves me thinking that the increase in wins is due to the natural growth of the younger players (fewer, although still many mistakes), the lifting of the cap limitation, and the addition of a starter-level PG (despite his faults).

In previous years the Pistons were the same way. The warriors are the opposite- they score a ton of points but it takes them a lot of posessions and the Hawks were actually the more effective offense. Here's the link

thanks, I agree that PPG are dreadfully inadequate. I appreciate the link too, but I'll have to check it out later. I have to log off for a while.

I understand why he still gets crap (stagnant offense, fights with players, odd substitution patterns etc.) , but I will never fully comprehend why you and others won't give the man one iota of credit for the steps this team has taken during his five seasons.

Wouldn't this be a defense for BK as well seeing as that he built the team? The did better every season... the core that he built is now in the 2nd round. Is that validation? No. Did he do everything right? No. Neither has Woody. Obviously I don't buy the nonsense that some people are spewing about him being the worst coach in the NBA, but most coaches with his level of ability a) don't have jobs as long as he has or b) get assistant coaches who come in and take over in their areas of weakness.

These numbers are more due to players improvements and player signings than to Woody coaching.
I admit is part of that improvement, but we can't give him all the credit.
Our offense is only based on our players, not so much on Woody. On the other side, his defense is better, and I would give him a defense assistant coach job, but we would be better with a better head coach, as we would be better with (or even if we also had a better head coach) a good big guy like Brad Miller or a more defensive C. We need depth, and if we can get it, we will be better, but we will still be limited Woody head coaching.

That's all I've been saying in this thread. Woody deserves at least some credit but he gets NONE despite being the head man for a team that has improved every single season he has been in charge. I agree the majority is because of the players, I just think some of the unchanged opinions of Woody and his coaching are unfair considering how far we have come.

Who is tryign to give woodson all the credit? I am just fascinated by the fact that people don't give him any at all. I don't think that any coach would be able to make this team a top 3 seed or to beat the Cavs in the playoffs- I don't see how people think the Hawks underachieved this year because of the coach.

Every time I see this thread title I can't help but think that Woodson earns parking validation.

That's only fair.
