Alston Suspended for Game 3

Post#1 » by canman1971 » Thu May 7, 2009 10:25 pm

Not that this is much of a surprise, but here it is. Deserving IMO. Just a boneheaded move.

Doubly boneheaded since the Magic have played all season without a backup pointguard.

Anthony Johnson cannot keep up with Rondo defensively on one possession, let alone over 48 minutes. With Jameer Nelson and Rafer Alston out, our depth chart at PG is LITERALLY Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue. There's no one else.

We better take advantage of this- not sure if it was deserved or not IMO- but I won't complain.

Tyrone Lue used to be nasty..what happened to him? I hope he doesn't play tomorrow..he always played pretty well vs Boston if I recall correctly...lol..
But mhm..well deserved...totally a non basketball play. Unecessary..hopefully Boston takes advantage of this tomorrow.

I was actually hoping that Alston wouldn't get suspended. He sucks as a PG and chucks up a ton of bad shots. Not only that, he plays absolutely zero defense.

His replacement is going to do a better job guarding Rondo and House which is not good for the Celtics.

prepare to hear about the 'double standards' ... however i think its the right call, it wasnt even remotely part of a basketball play, just a blatent hit to a players head (all be it a ***** one)

i think Lee is back for game 3, so its not all bad for the magic

Exactly. Idk why they are so worried about this. It's not like Rafer is one hell of a player. Lue is probably better than him. Rondo owned him back and forth last game. Anthony has a better shot too. I wish he wasn't suspended. Too bad..

Yeah, if they really wanted to punish him they would allow him to play so that he received further humiliation on the court.

They should make him have to play Rondo one on one while Chuck and Kenny get to comment over the PA.

What happened to "The NBA has become soft. You're all whining and bitching because Rondo knocked Miller's tooth out, and threw Hinrich onto the scorer's table."

Oh wait, biased opinions happened. Since Rondo didn't get suspended, neither should Alston. "But what Alston did was *sniff* intentional. He SLAPPED Eddie House! When Rondo threw Hinrich, he was just holding onto his arm so Hinrich wouldn't fall back. Rondo's an angel."

Don't worry, I'll argue for you guys.

You can at least argue that Rondo was going for the ball or trying to make a basketball related play, you can't with Alston. Maybe I'm just incredibly biased for the Celtics, but I don't think Rondo did anything legitimately wrong last series, especially in comparison to someone pansy slapping someone's head out of frustration.

Thanks for stopping by, shouldn't you be fishing?

anyway.....

1. The league could do themselves a huge favor if they more clearly defined the rules and then explained EVERY call from the league office in detail.

2. I understand the need to punish a blatant slap to the head - but was there intent to injure? - no - should have been a big fine, but no suspension.

3. <sigh> I miss the good old days, this is really getting kind of silly. What next? knee pads, helmets and absolutely no contact?

I would have just fined him a hell of a lot, but I don't find it surprising he got suspended.

JJ -- I invite you to view the thread "Should Rafer Alston Be Suspended?" where the majority of the posters on this board said no but he likely would be anyway because of how the NBA enforces rules.

Normally, I'd say my peace and leave since Chicago lost, but as you plan on trolling here for the remainder of the playoffs and can't let it go -- this incident illustrates a clear distinction between Celtic fans and Bull fans.

When Rondo body-slammed helpless Kirk Hinrich ten rows into the stands, Chicago fans cried and moaned to no end to have Rondo suspended in Game 7. Very few had any true balls to say that they wanted Rondo to play so the Bulls could beat the Celtics and prove they were a better team. No, most wanted an advantage no matter what.

When Eddie House was bitch slapped by Rafer Alston? Celtic fans laughed it off and didn't care if he played in Game 3 or not. Why? Because we're confident we can beat the Magic with Alston and need no advantage to close out this series.

Continue to claim hypocrisy all you want -- if you actually had read this board before seeing the Alston suspension flash on SportsCenter, you'd know how off base you are. But anyway --
