prediction: We see a fight soon

Post#1 » by Hemingway » Fri May 8, 2009 12:37 am

Let me start by saying, I 100% condone fighting in the NBA

That said, I think we are going to see one soon. There is a lot of Boston hate on these boards and after game 2 I think I see where some of it comes from. A lot of our guys seem to instigate things. Such as after after making a basket bumping into an opposing player where the contact is really there fault but we are going for it. Guys like Rondo and House in particular I could see wanting to punch if I was playing against them. I think there might have been some discussions in the locker room about what is ok and what is not and how to draw a T from someone.

I'm of the belief (and in the minority it seems around here) that this is all legit and part of the game. I'm ok with flopping, fighting and general underhandedness. I'm also loving the hate we are getting. Rondo in particular. The guy just seems to draw a big bulls eye on himself and then moves to fast to ever be hit.

Thoughts?

Boston is not a position to get caught up in a fight we don't have the bodies. I could see some physical play and but I would expect that our rotation players continue to walk away and maybe Doc slides Bill Walker in at some point to do what he do.

Our team needs to stay cool like Ray Allen. We certainly can't afford to lose anyone.

I don't see it against Orlando. Alston's already getting a suspension and he's the only player with the Magic that I would think willing to mix things up. Not Turkoglu, not Reddick, not Howard, and certainly not Rashard Lewis. Just isn't happening.

The Heat and Hawks had equally tacky incidents, though no suspensions, during their first round series.

Now if the Celtics move on to Cleveland we should revisit this thread.

Somebody's going to snap. Our team doesn't have any real hotheads, besides Bill Walker, who doesn't play. Teams like the Nuggets with K-Mart, Melo, or the Rockets with Artest, are more likely to be involved in a brawl.

What we do have on our team are a few agitators, Eddie, Rondo, Scal, and Perk can all get on the other teams nerves. Same goes for Cleveland with Varejao. Usually with these sorts of guys you just end up with a couple of shoves.

All I know is, if ish goes down, I want Perk on the floor. Unless it leads to him getting suspended then I want the complete opposite. I don't know if you heard Ron Artest's childhood ball story, but I want perk to pick up alston like a leg of a table and throw him through Dwight's chest.

I think Doc is worried about that and will work hard to keep the guys in check.

It it should work. Note that on the whole they have a good track record of walking away from potential fight situations, Tony Allen's social life perhaps excepted.

I also don't see it vs. Orlando. Perk and Howard sound sincere in their mutual admiration society. What's more, they both fear suspensions, Howard because he just had one and Perk because he was on track for one before he radically changed his ways in December. Orlando has earned two suspensions in 4 games; Van Gundy will keep them in check after that. Orlando has a player who once LITERALLY saved Paul Pierce's LIFE.

As for Cleveland, they're riding so high that they should have a decent tolerance for frustration when things finally do get tougher for them. And the Cs aren't going to be playing Cleveland in the first place unless they've gotten very focused, disciplined, and locked-in by then.

Exactly.

Forget about actual fighting for a second, though that's undoubtedly entertaining. The bigger picture is that The Magic are just not as tough as the Celtics. They're a pretty looking collection of shooters with one physical presence in the middle, who's basically a nice young man... The Celtics have some mentally tough guys who've been through some wars. Orlando doesn't. That's the main reason they will lose the series.

Cleveland on the other hand... tough as nails.

Not to sound cocky or anything guys really but I WOULD JUST LOVE TO FACE ANYONE ON THIS BOARD who hates theCeltics for whatever reason lol. Not trying to provoke anyone...but hey if your a Boston Celtic hater and hate our fans I'd like you to do SOMETHING about it :D ... instead of writing crap on the boards :).

BTW, I think Bill Walker would murder anyone on the Orlando. I heard this kid been involved with some underground fighting before.

As far as Boston and hotheads we have plenty. I am almost constantly worried about Perk, TA, House, and even Pierce on the floor pressure situations you are what you do and these guys all have a track record of talking a ton and in Perk and TA's case backing it up. Add to that Rondo and Marbury who seem to be pretty easy to hate, and KG running his pie hole from his 3 piece (which is totally pissing me off at this point). This is a concern but I also think that Perk is a deterrent for most of this now because anybody knows that if you do it with him on the court it isn't going to be a slap fight.

I think Brian Scalabrene is probably the toughest dude in our team. Those quiet, weird looking dudes will do some kung fu on ya ass.
