Olympic Teams

Post#1 » by _venom_ » Thu May 7, 2009 7:41 pm

As of right now what would you like for your countries Olympic hockey team to look like? I know a lot will change within the next year but it's always a great discussion especially with the Canadian team that has so many options.

My Team Canada:

G Roberto Luongo
G Martin Brodeur
G Cam Ward

D Chris Pronger
D Scott Niedermayer
D Dion Phaneuf
D Shea Weber
D Mike Green
D Jay Bouwmeeter
D Duncan Keith

F Sydney Crosby
F Eric Staal
F Ryan Getzlaf
F Vincent Lecavalier
F Jarome Iginla
F Mike Richards
F Rick Nash
F Dany Heatley
F Jonathon Toews
F Martin St. Louis
F Jeff Carter
F Simon Gagne
F Shane Doan

So the lineup would be something like:

Luongo
Brodeur
Ward

Niedermayer Pronger
Phaneuf Weber
Bouwmeester Green
Keith

Nash Crosby Iginla
Heatley Getzlaf Staal
Gagne Lecavalier St. Louis
Carter Richards Doan
Toews

Others Considered:

G Steve Mason
G Marc-Andre Fleury
G Carey Price

D Dan Boyle
D Brent Burns
D Drew Doughty
D Braydon Coburn
D Brent Seabrook

F Marc Savard
F Joe Thornton
F Patrick Marleau
F Joe Sakic
F Jason Spezza
F Mike Cammilleri
F Corey Perry

I don't want Crosby playing with those guys because I don't want to see what he could do with wingers like that.

Looks good to me! I even like your line combinations. I think it would be hard to keep Dan Boyle off the team, and I would probably have him there over Duncan Keith. It is also hard not to have Marc Savard on the squad, but it's really hard to find a spot for a guy who's skill become redundant on a team that is so stacked offensively. Mike Richards as the 4th line center, you couldn't find a better player in the world to fill that roll.

Thank you very much for not putting Joe Thornton on the team!

All-in-all I think that is exactly, or very close, to the team Yzerman will come up with. Either way, Gold Metal here we come!

For comparison sake, let's take a look at Team Russia

Team Russia:

Forwards
Ovechkin Datsyuk Semin
Kovalchuk Malkin Kovalev
Frolov Yashin Radulov
Moroslov Federov Zherdev

Defense
Gonchar Markov
Zubov Tyutin
Volchenkov Atyushov

Goalies
Nabokov
Bryzgalov
Varlamov

Extra: Slava Kozlov

Their top 2 lines are equal to or greater than Team Canada's top 2 lines. That's a lot of fire power. All 3 Hart trophy finalists this year are Russian. They have the best goal scorers in the world in Ovechkin and Kovalchuk. They arn't as deep, or as tough, and they certainly arn't as good on the blue line or in net. But when it comes to talent and ability to take home gold, Russia is as good as it gets.

Come on, I have to bring something other than Blackhawks, Penguins, Bruins, Capitals and the Canada teams. :D

Green and J-Bo will be a minus 20 in the tournament. Watching Green offensivly is magic, defensivly. . .there is a lot to be desired.

The only way i see him getting substancial minutes is if Kieth is on the ice 2 seconds longer on each shift

It's all going to be about getting the chemistry for Canada. I don't know what direction they're going to go. Are they going to take guys like Morrow, Doan, and Regehr or are they going to pick all the best skill players they have.
