Yeah I'm happy as a fan and for Gentry

Remains to be seen who he starts the year with...we need some young, fresh legs that FIT the system, not Tucker or RoLo or even JRich

Would have rather had Dan Majerle but I guess Gentry is fine since the Suns are still paying Porter. Majerle just seems like a guy who will concentrate on both defense and offense while Gentry is mostly an offensive minded guy.

While I think Gentry is a better fit for this team than Porter was, I'm still not sold on the fact that he's a great coach.

I still would have preferred someone like Flip Saunders.

Mos def, i would want Flip Saunders too. Knows how to handle a bunch of stars, may not have won the big one but a LOT of coaches haven't done that.

Avery Johnson could of done wonders for this team also. as for Gentry, I'm content with it. Can't get too excited just yet.

I disagree with you about Avery. Everybody knows that during Avery's time in Dallas, a lot of the players didn't like the way he made them play because it allowed for zero freedom or creativity. Quite simply, he's worse than Porter in that regard.

I'm happy with the Gentry signing. He'll give the Suns a lot of stability over the next few years. Even if we don't win this coming season, we'll know at least that he'll develop our rookies well and get them ready for when we properly rebuild.

I hope we get most of our guys back but I'm all for trading Shaq, J-Rich and Barnes (S&T) if it gets us players who will compliment Amare and Nash well. Whatever happens, I'm sure Gentry will at least do a decent job.

I personally dont like the move. I felt we needed new blood in here; gentry doesn't coach defense. There goes another 3 years of winning the championship.

Since 1990 here are the coaches that have won a title:

Tomjanovich
Jackson
Popovich
Larry Brown
Pat Riley
Doc Rivers

What do all these coaches have in common? they would bench the hell out of you for slacking on defense, for some reason Suns players think its "ok" to suck on defense if your good on offense.

All you people have to is look at how guys like Dragic and Dudley came along after Gentry replaced Porter. He knows how to coach, he knows how to motivate and support. He immediately earned the respect of the players on the team, and they ended up stepping it up.

Now, not having Amare was the death knell of the team, but had we had Gentry from the beginning of the year, we'd still be playing right now.

We've already spent way too much ****' time tinkering with what works. We tried getting creative with Porter and it failed bigtime. You just can't have a defensive-minded team with this group of players, and Kerr's moves over the last 2, 3 years have NOT helped establish a defensive mentality because he traded away our best defenders.

Keep Gentry, kick some ass, and do it how we know it. Also, let's pray for health.

the team respects alvin, that´s the main fact why they resigned him. even if he can´t coach this team will win something about 45-50 games, when healthy. but we need someone who preaches them defense. we will not win if we don´t show any signs of defense. is alvin a coach who want´s to see defense??

Props to the great one

How do you expect to play defense when there are no defenders on the team?

yah, you´re right and i understand youre point. but, defense starts in youre head. if you don´t want to play defense than you can call you a sun. and there is a long offseason to turn things around, i´ve posted in another thread that i wanna see ronron in here. add him and trade for camby and we can start playing defense and still run... but alvin has to want it.

Good.

Management just needs to go after a couple starting caliber defensive pieces now and the Suns could go back to making noise in the playoffs again.

The defensive problem has nothing to do with the coaching staff, anybody who thinks the current Suns roster can play D if they try harder is outta their mind

my feelings are this, if you are an excellent offensive player, why the hell cant you be at least half decent on defense? I would think its harder to be a great offensive player then it is a defensive player.
